Haverbeck is a district of the municipality of Bispingen in the Heidekreis district in the Lüneburg Heath in Lower Saxony. It consists of the heath villages Niederhaverbeck and Oberhaverbeck. The district lies in the midst of extensive heathland and is heavily influenced by tourism.

geography

There are 80 inhabitants in Haverbeck (as of June 30, 2012). The place has a district area of around 18 km² and is located on the state road 211 between Behringen and Wintermoor . Due to its road connection and its parking spaces for hikers , Haverbeck serves in particular as a starting point for a visit to the Wilseder Berg, about four kilometers to the east, with the Heidedorf Wilsede and Totengrund . The surrounding heathland can be reached on foot, by bike or by carriage.

Niederhaverbeck is traversed by the Haverbeeke creek , which gave the place Haverbeck its name and which is dammed up here to form a water pond. The 223 km long Heidschnuckenweg hiking trail runs through Niederhaverbeck and leads from Hamburg-Fischbeck to Celle. Around Oberhaverbeck and Niederhaverbeck there are still several old sheep stables that are still used by the Association for the Protection of the Nature Park to house their own herds of Heidschnucken .

history

Heathland near Niederhaverbeck

The village Haverbeck was first mentioned in 1193 when it was sold to the Bishop of Verden as part of the Bispingen parish . In Niederhaverbeck and Oberhaverbeck, structures of pre-industrial heath villages have been preserved, in which there are still storehouses and old farmsteads. They are loosely clustered villages that merge into the surrounding landscape without any sharp borders. The individual courtyards surrounded by trees are scattered without any visible order. There are a few inns, most of which have emerged from former full farms. In Niederhaverbeck, the Nature Conservation Park Association maintains a building complex with a sheep pen, from which the surrounding heathland is maintained and cared for.

politics

The mayor of Haverbeck is Hans-Peter Bockelmann.
