history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1061.
On February 1, 1971, the place was incorporated into the new municipality of Gensungen as part of the regional reform in Hesse . This community came to the city of Felsberg on January 1, 1974, where Heßlar was incorporated as a district.
The spelling of the place name changed several times over the centuries: Haselare (1061), Heslere (1295), Heseler (1351), Hesseler (1403), Heysseler (1493), Hesslar (1926), and finally Heßlar.
