Heide Gerstenberger

Heide Gerstenberger (born July 21, 1940 in Heuchlingen as Heide Johannsen) is a German political and economic scientist . Since 1974 she has been professor for theory of civil society and the state at the University of Bremen . In 2005 she retired.

Life

Gerstenberger studied social sciences in Wilhelmshaven , Stellenbosch and Göttingen from 1960 to 1964 . After completing her studies, she initially worked as a contract teacher at the Reutlingen vocational school and later as an employee of the Düsseldorf Adult Education Center .

In 1966 she received a doctoral scholarship from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and returned to the University of Göttingen . In 1968 Gerstenberger was promoted to Dr. disc. pole. PhD with the subject of revolutionary conservatism . From 1966 to 1974 she was a research assistant at the Political Science Chair at the University of Göttingen.

In 1968, Gerstenberger was sent to the founding senate of the University of Bremen by the Federal Assistant Conference , which started work on September 19. Gerstenberger was chair of the founding senate from April 13, 1970 until the election of the founding rector Thomas von der Vring on June 29, 1970.

In 1972 Gerstenberger qualified as a professor with her work The Political Economy of Civil Society. Your constitution in the USA . 1974 Gerstenberger received the call to the University of Bremen for the position theory of civil society and the state.

Gerstenberger is a member of Attac's scientific advisory board .

Focus of work

Heide Gerstenberger works on a broad spectrum of socio-theoretical and socio-historical topics. They range from work on local social history to work on poor and social policy to research on the functioning of National Socialist rule. The focus was consistently on the analysis of the historical development and current structures of modern states.

Heide Gerstenberger is currently working on problems of globalization , on different forms of capitalist societies and on processes of impoverishment on a global scale.

Ongoing research project: Market and Violence.

Since 1992 Heide Gerstenberger has also been involved in research on historical and current practice in merchant shipping .
