Heiko Peschke (born September 18, 1963 in Riesa ) is a former German soccer player and soccer coach . He played in the GDR Oberliga for Halleschen FC Chemie and FC Carl Zeiss Jena , and for Bayer 05 Uerdingen in the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga . For the GDR national team , he played five internationals.

Soccer career

Young player at Halleschen FC Chemie

Peschke started at the age of seven in his hometown Riesa in the children's team of BSG Stahl , in whose Oberligaelf father Horst had already played. From 1977 to 1983 he attended the children's and youth sports school in Halle, although as a Riesa actor he was actually intended to be delegated to the Dresden KJS . Since his father was training the BSG Stahl Walzwerk Hettstedt at that time , a different decision was made after a few differences, so that Heiko Peschke wore the colors of the Halleschen FC Chemie from 1977 . There he played first in the youth team and later in the junior team. In the summer of 1981 he was accepted into the squad of the GDR junior national team and took 7th place with the team in the ČSSR in the youth competitions of friendship . By 1982, the HFC player played ten U-18 internationals, in which he was first used as a Libero , later in midfield. In his year, the GDR junior team did not take part in the U-18 European Championship in 1982 .

1982 Peschke also made his debut in the GDR league. When defender Jürgen Schliebe had to retire in the sixth minute on matchday 18 , coach Jürgen Koitzsch gave the 18-year-old the opportunity to prove himself in the men's field. Peschke took the chance and was used as a pre-stopper for the rest of the season . He kept this position under the new coach Klaus Urbanczyk in the top division season 1982/83. The 1.86 m tall Peschke played 25 of the 26 point games and was the HFC's second-best goalscorer with eight goals. In the meantime Peschke had also been accepted into the GDR youth national team and by May 1983 had already played five U-21 internationals.

Regular player at FC Carl Zeiss Jena

He had the prerequisites to prove himself in a top club. At the beginning of the 1983/84 season and after passing high school, Peschke moved to the upper division FC Carl Zeiss Jena . There he initially continued his career as a stopper and immediately established himself as a regular player. At the same time, he continued to work in the junior national team, for which he played a total of 25 international matches until August 1988. During the 1985/86 season, Peschke moved to the libero position at FC Carl Zeiss, which he then occupied with the Jena team until 1991. He was still dangerous on goal and scored at least three goals in every season.

Olympic selection and national team player

Between 1986 and 1988 Peschke was part of the GDR's soccer team , in which the Jena Libero was used in 25 matches. He played six qualifying games for the Olympic football tournament in Seoul and scored two goals as a libero. However, the GDR could not qualify for the Olympic tournament. Despite his impressive career to date, Peschke came to the GDR national team late. He completed his first international match on March 28, 1990 in the test match GDR - USA (3-2) in his usual position as a sweeper. He was also part of the game as a libero in the following four international matches, his only international goal was scored on April 11, 1990 against Egypt when he scored the first goal in a 2-0 win. On September 12, 1990 he was one of the players who played the last international match of the GDR national team in a 2-0 away win in Belgium.

Bundesliga and 2nd Bundesliga in Uerdingen

Peschke played his last season for FC Carl Zeiss Jena in 1990/91. It was also the last season of the GDR Oberliga and thus also the qualifying round for the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. Peschke, now 28 years old, played another 25 point games and scored seven goals. The Jena team qualified sixth for the 2nd Bundesliga , but Peschke left the club at the end of the season. After eight seasons he had played 188 league games for the Zeiss townspeople, in which he scored 45 goals. He was also used in 27 national cup games (9 goals) and eight European Cup games (without scoring).

Peschke continued his career at Bayer 05 Uerdingen in the 2nd Bundesliga in 1991/92 . Already in his first season he reached promotion to the Bundesliga with the Uerdingen and had contributed to this with 31 games as a midfielder. In the Bundesliga, Peschke played 25 times as a defender, but could not prevent immediate relegation. In 1993/94 he was involved in promotion again with 35 appearances, and this time Bayer was able to stay in the Bundesliga for two seasons. Peschke was able to increase his first division account to a total of 67 inserts and scored five goals. Peschke completed his last season as a professional player as a defender in the 2nd Bundesliga. It was his third second division season, in which he had come to a total of 92 games with four goals.

Coaching career

Then Peschke struck a career as a football coach. In 1991 he had already received the diploma for his sports teacher degree. He later acquired the B and A trainer license and then in 1998 the soccer teacher license. He finished the course in Cologne as the best. From 1997 to 2000 he coached Anadolu Türkspor Krefeld and led the team in the national league. At the beginning of 2001 Heiko Peschke took over the association league club VfR Neuss , but could not save the team from relegation. After another coaching station at 1. FC Krefeld, Peschke became a sports teacher at a school in the Wesel district and worked as a talent scout.
