Sacred Heart - The Sword of Your Sun is the sixth studio album by the band Samsas Traum , released in 2007 . It was released on the same day as the album When Black Rain .
History of origin
Moritz Neuner's recording of the drums was very unsatisfactory for Kaschte. The recordings did not fit the musical direction of the album, and Neuner, Booker from Atrocity and Leaves' Eyes had not been adequately prepared. After much back and forth, Kaschte decided to delete the drum tracks. Then Kaschte sent Adrian Erlandsson from The Haunted, through Fredrik Nordström's mediation, demo pieces from the album, and Fredrik Nordström immediately agreed to record the album. Daniel Schröder took over the clarinet again , as with the album Wenn Schwarzer Regen , which was released at the same time .
Formats
The album was released in two different formats: once in a normal jewel case and once as a limited version. The limited version comes in book format (14 × 28 cm) in a slipcase with high-quality embossing and varnish. The hardcover linen binding contains the special booklet with thread stitching, which contains all texts, liner notes and additional illustrations.
Cover
The cover depicts a burning Jesus Christ with the face of Kaschte in a church. According to Kaschte, this was not (or not exclusively) for blasphemous reasons, but was because Kaschte was sometimes asked for advice by his fans and he was therefore feel "like a redeemer forced to his destiny". Therefore, the motif also appears in various representations.

Song info
The album's intro, 5 + 6 = 218 , is a sample from an interview with the recently deceased Jon Nödtveidt from Dissection . The title is based on a numerical code of the Misanthropic Luciferian Orders (MLO), of which Nödtveidt was the most prominent member.
Music style and lyrics
After a.Ura and das Schnecken.Haus , an album more oriented towards Gothic Metal , the album should go in the harder direction again. Accordingly, musical characteristics of Black Metal of the early 1990s can be found on the album, but mixed with numerous influences from other genres, as has become common with Samsa's dream. The album is much faster and more aggressive than its predecessors. In fact, Kaschte sometimes sees Samsa's dream as a black metal band, something that the scene in general denies:
“I see SAMSAS TRAUM as a black metal band because the 'adversary' resonated in everything we did from the beginning - whether on ' Die Liebe Gottes ', on 'Heiliges Herz' or even on 'a.Ura': SAMSAS DREAM are an alternative, SAMSAS DREAM are against it, SAMSAS DREAM are an anti-attitude that has become flesh and blood. SAMSA'S DREAM is a philosophical Satan - and the nice thing is , as mentioned in the first paragraph of this answer: I don't have to make an effort to do what I do, I just do it. "
Lyrically, however, Kaschte moved away from the usual black metal clichés, instead using natural metaphors and very personal texts.
Reviews
Conny Schiffbauer from Rock Hard only gave 2 out of 10 points and described this in her vicious criticism, based on the Lord of the Rings cycle, as similar to “when a glorified Gollum reincarnation screeching lines of text forces naive Elven girls from Rivendell to thin background beeps and even after a couple of tankards of beer too much in the ' Prancing Pony ', Dark Metal, Black , NDH , Gothic and Wave are mixed so flatly and talentlessly into a desolate Uruk-hai brew that even the most steadfast hobbit has hair on his feet. “The Rock Hard had previously panned albums from Samsa's dream in their reviews and voted them“ Ass Bomb of the Month ”(worst album of the month) several times. Kaschte responded to the recent criticism with a letter to the editor. It is also said to have increased mail complaints from Samsas dream fans at Schiffbauer.
At an anniversary celebration for the Nuclear Blast label , Kaschte confronted Schiffbauer with her polemics. According to Kaschte, the encounter should have happened like this:
“For Conny the encounter was extremely involuntary, she almost sunk into the ground with embarrassment and shame and even screamed a little. My polemical and sarcastic veins were fed energies in a 10-minute conversation that should last until the end of my life: 'I just needed a hook,' Conny admitted. Congratulations, I actually stayed friendly. We must have looked funny, the woman is not even half my size. "
According to Kaschte, Schiffbauer had also stated that he had written the review under editorial time pressure.
The webzine Stormbringer.at also wrote a review:
“Even the band name pretends to have an intellectuality that is never achieved. Because lyrically the level is anything but high, even if this time you have to do without such great song titles as 'Stromausfall im Herzspital' or 'A fetus like you'. The texts mostly consist of meaningless empty phrases that create an amusing grin rather than devout amazement. Kaschte's singing underlines these lyrical effusions very appropriately with pseudo-evil screeching, or sometimes with artificial theatrics in BLUMFELD style, the music almost degenerates into a minor matter. 'Heiliges Herz' offers more Black Metal rumbling instead of new German hardness, but this too sounds pretty arbitrary and cannot set any standards. "
The same applies to Metal.de , who particularly criticized the lyrics and the genre mix:
“Sure, Alex did it well and inspired it with quite a bit of zeitgeist: a bit of German hardness of the JOACHIM WITT variety, a bit of black amateurism (does anyone seriously believe that LUNAR AURORA or NAGELFAR can be quoted by Alex?), Plus a few swabs ROSENSTOLZ romanticism and medieval wickedness in order well Gothics with a penchant for simplicity, as well as to address lovers anspruchslosester tones within the aforementioned genres. Further reviews were far friendlier. The Legacy described the album as a “flawless Black Metal work with Norwegian influences” with a “clear Darkthrone and Mayhem impact”.
Josef Behr from Metal1.info gave a buy recommendation:
“I predict that this output of the master will split again and should also scare away some fans of the last records (but they can buy the no less fascinating and simultaneously published 'Wenn Schwarzer Regen'), but if you are open minded and have one Has a sense for music beyond nonsensical limits should at least risk a few ears and dive into the wonderfully crazy world of Alex K. I strongly recommend buying this super album, which also comes with a bonus CD on which you can find remixes by not unknown artists such as Peter Tägegren ( Pain , Hypocrisy ), Wumpscut or In Strict Confidence .
