Heinrich "Heini" Staudinger (born April 5, 1953 in Vöcklabruck ) is an Austrian entrepreneur .

Life

Heinrich Staudinger grew up in Schwanenstadt in Upper Austria in a Catholic family. He started various courses in Vienna, including a. Medicine and founded a shoe store in Vienna in 1980 with the sale of shoes from the Danish brand Earth Shoe in Langen Gasse in the 8th district of Vienna, which developed into the company GEA (later GEA / Waldviertler) - with direct shipping, factory sales and trade fairs in Schrems, another 34 branches in Austria, 20 branches in Germany and one branch in Switzerland (August 2020).

GEA / Waldviertel

In 1984, a self-managed shoe factory Waldviertler Schuhwerkstatt - which produces and develops Waldviertler shoes and other products - was founded in Schrems in the Waldviertel , where, as a former sales customer, he was co-owner from 1991 and is now the majority owner. The factory was expanded to include a furniture workshop. In 2009 a hall in Schrems was bought from the Ergee bankruptcy, in 2013 the vacant Hotel Post , which was (re) opened in May 2013 as part of the GEA Academy .

Staudinger has been working on the idea of ​​converting his company into a cooperative since the mid-noughties . Staudinger loan case / crowdfunding law

With the Staudinger loan case , Heinrich Staudinger became a state affair in 2012 and received international attention. Because he could no longer get a loan from his house bank, he borrowed money from his friends and customers with a kind of crowdfunding . As a result, the Austrian financial market supervisory authority FMA opened administrative penal proceedings against him because he was illegally operating a bank by granting loans. In this context, Staudinger received argumentative support from Christoph Leitl , President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce .

At a demonstration in front of the Vienna Parliament on December 7, 2012, Heini Staudinger confirmed his decision not to pay the first fine of 2000 euros demanded by the FMA and, if necessary, to allow himself to be locked up.

In 2013 he put the expansion of the solar system out to tender, again financed by the issue of GEA “sun vouchers” .

On January 17, 2014 it was announced that a final court decision against Heini Staudinger was also issued. "After the Administrative Court (VwGH) and the Constitutional Court (VfGH), the Independent Administrative Senate (UVS) also confirmed the legal opinion of the Financial Market Authority (FMA). The FMA granted Staudinger a grace period until the end of January 2014 to either repay the loaned money or to present alternative solutions . " Staudinger had collected 3 million euros to finance a photovoltaic system and a warehouse from private individuals. The FMA's legal opinion was confirmed that this was a banking transaction for which it would need a banking license. According to his brother and lawyer Karl Staudinger, the alternative options were being considered “non-public loan or the declaration of subordination”.
