Heinrich Gottlieb von Kannewurf

Heinrich Gottlieb von Kannewurf (born September 10, 1726 in Kleinneuhausen , † January 25, 1799 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and minister of war .

Life

origin

He comes from Thuringia and was the son of Hans Rudolf von Kannewurf (1687–1740) and his wife Sophie Auguste Katharina, née von Wurmb .

Military career

Kannewurf came in 1743 as an officer in the infantry regiment "von Jeetze" . He fought in the Seven Years' War near Lobositz and Prague , where he was also wounded. In 1769 he became Prime Lieutenant and fought near Schweidnitz, Liegnitz and Torgau . In 1762 he became captain , in 1769 major , and on February 1, 1777 lieutenant colonel and regimental commander. During the War of the Bavarian Succession he was in the corps of Prince Heinrich in Saxony. On September 20, 1780 he became a colonel there and in June 1783 during the review in Pomerania, he received the order Pour le Mérite from King Frederick II .

In June 1787 it appointed Friedrich Wilhelm II. To major general of infantry and Vice President of the newly established Upper War College. In 1793, Kannewurf was promoted to lieutenant general and knight of the Red Eagle Order. In 1796 he was appointed director of the 5th Department of the Oberkriegskolleg and head of the military department of the Generalkolleg. On February 2, 1796 he was appointed real secret minister of state and justice. There was also an administrative reform in which the first, second, third and fifth departments of the Oberkriegskolleg were merged into the first department. As Minister of State and War, Kannewurff became the director of this first department, in which all military affairs were now brought together. In the same year he also received the Great Red Eagle Order.

After his death in 1799, Karl Franz von der Goltz took over the office.

family

On July 14, 1769, he married Magdalene Sophie von Parsenow (1747-1822), a daughter of the district administrator August von Parsenow from Pomerania. The couple had two sons and four daughters, including:

  • Karl Peter Heinrich (1770–1792), second lieutenant
  • Ernst Friedrich Philipp (1773–1836), District Administrator ⚭ Charlotte Henriette von Pfuhl, daughter of Franz Wilhelm von Pfuel
  • Sophie Charlotte Karoline Dorothea (March 3, 1775 - February 3, 1855) ⚭ Colonel Friedrich von Caprivi (September 10, 1743 - August 25, 1821) (parents of Leopold von Caprivi )
  • Barbara Henriette Luise (* 1777; † 1800) ⚭ Karl von Rhediger (Rehdiger) (1765–1826), Prussian Privy Councilor of State
