Heinrich Moller
Heinrich Moller (also Henricus Möller or Henrich Müller ; born April 12, 1530 in Hamburg ; † November 26, 1589 ibid) was a German Protestant theologian.
Life
Heinrich was born as a child of Hamburg councilor Joachim Moller the Elder and his wife Anna, the daughter of Hamburg councilor Joachim Nigel, as a member of the famous Hamburg Moller vom Hirsch family. After initial school education in his place of birth, he enrolled on June 14, 1546 at the University of Wittenberg . In doing so, he came into contact with Philipp Melanchthon , who guided him primarily in his preferred studies of oriental languages. The following year he matriculated at the University of Rostock . Back in Wittenberg, on February 24, 1551, he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy, and on July 7, 1554, he was accepted into the faculty of the philosophical faculty. However, since he could not find a permanent position as a professor, in May 1559 he took over a position as court master with the Count of Nassau. At Melanchthon's efforts, after Paul Eber had resigned his professorship for Hebrew at the philosophical faculty, Moller was appointed professor of the Hebrew language at the University of Wittenberg in 1560 and was obliged to “read with the scriptures” due to a higher salary. At the philosophical faculty he took over the deanery in 1562 and held the rectorate of the academy in 1573, and in 1565 the equivalent vice-rectorate. He also became assessor at the Wittenberg consistory in 1573.
Moller was drawn to theological studies, is listed as a theologian as early as 1561 and read about the minor prophets from the original text of the Bible. After he was accepted into the theological faculty on December 14, 1569, the philosophical teaching position was transferred to the theological faculty. On May 11, 1570 he received his doctorate in theology together with Caspar Cruciger the Younger , Christoph Pezel , Johannes Bugenhagen the Younger , Friedrich Widebram and Nikolaus Selnecker . From now on, opportunities opened up for him at the then higher-valued faculty.
As in 1574 on the after Torgau the disputes between parliament convened Philippists and Gnesiolutheranern by the Torgau Articles denied Moller with other Philippists were resolved in favor of the latter, the signing. He was then imprisoned in Wittenberg, Torgau and Leipzig. And finally expelled from Saxony . On August 8, 1574 he went back to Hamburg and pursued not only theological but also medical studies. This enabled him to work as a doctor, which he did until he died from a stroke.
