Heinrich Stiegemann (born December 23, 1909 in Krefeld ; † May 17, 1989 in Warstein ) was a German architect and church builder in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

Life and work

Heinrich Stiegemann studied architecture at RWTH Aachen University and the Technical University of Stuttgart . He then worked first in Krefeld and then in Salzgitter . He was badly wounded in World War II . He settled in Warstein, where he stayed until his death.

Renovation work on various churches led Stiegemann to church building. As the “representative of the state curator for the area around Warstein”, he was responsible for a large number of expansion projects and renovations. His architectural office implemented a total of 94 building projects in the Soest district alone - churches, parsonages, parsonages - in 53 parishes. He was one of the busiest architects in the Archdiocese of Paderborn.

One of his concerns was to adapt the structural forms and materials to the regional conditions, for example using local materials and a simple design, in the interests of homeland and landscape protection. In his buildings he emphasized the simplicity of the spatial concept. The church tower, which stands a little apart, is a distinguishing feature of many Stiegemann church buildings.

“Viewed as a whole, the Lord God should be given an apartment and the believing people a place to celebrate and pray. The targeted use of natural and stone should guarantee the building the real existence, the dignified aging and the pious meaning ” , so Heinrich Stiegemann about the parish church Heilig Kreuz in Warstein-Belecke.

Heinrich Steigemann was married and the father of four children. His estate is kept in the Soest district archive.

Honors

In recognition of his services, Stiegemann was awarded the papal New Year's Eve order in 1976, presented by Archbishop Johannes Joachim Degenhardt .

In 1987 he received the Federal Cross of Merit .
