Henry VIII (Brieg)

Heinrich VIII. Von Brieg und Liegnitz , called mit der Schramme (* 1344 - † 11 July 1399 ), was Duke of Lüben from 1381 to 1399 and Duke of Brieg from 1398 to 1399 . He came from the Silesian Piast family . He got his nickname after being wounded at the imperial court in 1373.

Origin and family

Heinrich's parents were Duke Ludwig I of Liegnitz and Brieg and Agnes († 1362), daughter of Duke Heinrich IV († 1342) of Glogau and Sagan .

In 1369 Heinrich married Helene, daughter of Duke Otto VIII († 1334) of Orlamünde , who died in the same year. The son came from this marriage

In 1379 Henry VIII married Margareta, widow of Duke Casimir IV of Pomerania , who was a daughter of Duke Ziemowit III. from Mazovia was. The children came from this marriage

Life

Henry VIII grew up at the Prague court of Emperor Charles IV , in whose documents he is attested since 1360. He spent most of his life in the service of the Luxembourg rulers, most recently as Chancellor of King Wenceslaus IV. In 1381 he was assigned Lüben by his father , which he chose to be his residence. After his father's death in 1398, he followed him as Duke of Brieg, but died a year later.
