Heinrich Josef Karl von Heydebrand and the Lasa (born May 4, 1790 in Pleß / Upper Silesia , † September 29, 1868 in Warmbrunn ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Heinrich was the son of the Prussian major and knight of the order Pour le Mérite Leopold von Heydebrand (1754–1808) and his wife Johanne Henriette Beate, née Wienczeck (1754–1794).

Military career

Heydebrand joined the Prussian Army's "von Holtzendorff" cuirassier regiment as a Junker in 1803 and was promoted to cornet at the beginning of April 1805 . During the Fourth Coalition War , he took part in the Battle of Jena and the Battle of Boitzenburg. As a result of the surrender at Prenzlau , Heydebrand was captured by the French as a second lieutenant . After his release he came to the 1st Dragoons Brigade at the end of March 1807 and received only half pay from November 21, 1807 after the Peace of Tilsit .

On August 31, 1808 Heydebrand was transferred to the East Prussian Cuirassier Regiment , at the beginning of December 1808 was aggregated into the Silesian Cuirassier Regiment and was assigned there in mid-May 1809. During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen and Bautzen . For the battle near Haynau Heydebrand received the Iron Cross II. Class and for Colditz the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class.

Heydebrand rose to Rittmeister and squadron chief by the end of December 1817 . On March 31, 1818, he was transferred to the regiment of the Gardes du Corps . From August 4, 1824 he was commanded to the teaching squadron and on October 13, 1824 appointed chief of the teaching squadron, and at the end of the month aggregated to the Gardes du Corps regiment. On January 4, 1828 he received permission to use the nickname "and the Lasa". Heydebrand was promoted to major on March 30, 1832 . On July 18, 1839, he was initially assigned to lead the 11th Hussar Regiment and on January 28, 1840, he was appointed regiment commander. On September 12, 1841, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. With a promotion to colonel Heydebrand took his leave on February 8, 1844, with a pension and the right to wear his regimental uniform. On August 27, 1853 he was given the character of major general. He died on September 29, 1868 in Warmbrunn in the Giant Mountains.

General von Brauchitsch wrote in his assessment in 1831: “An extremely active, prudent officer, tirelessly zealous for the service, who has a high degree of his profession, is extraordinarily suitable for his current relationship, at every opportunity of all his superiors finds full recognition of his hard work, which is to be retained in his current position, but also that he will soon be promoted.
