Paul Hugo Ferdinand Baumeister , von Baumeister since 1871 , (born July 4, 1821 in Glogau , † July 24, 1887 in Bad Reinerz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

He was the son of the higher regional judge Ottomar Baumeister († 1828) and his wife Charlotte, née Petschke († 1849).

Military career

After his education in his parents' home and a visit to the school in his hometown builder came on July 11, 1839 Musketeer in the 6th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian army one. There he was promoted to Second Lieutenant on December 29, 1840 . From October 1, 1844, Baumeister was assigned to the 5th Combined Reserve Battalion for one year and to the Infantry Training Battalion from April to mid-October 1852 . As a prime lieutenant from April 11, 1853, Baumeister was a company commander of the 1st Battalion of the 6th Landwehr Regiment in Görlitz . In this capacity promoted to captain on July 8, 1858 , he became company commander in his main regiment on July 1, 1860 . On January 11, 1866, he was transferred to the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 10 while being promoted to major . On April 18, 1866, Baumeister was given command of the 2nd battalion, which he commanded in the same year during the war against Austria in the battle of Königgrätz . His battalion managed to capture 14 artillery pieces and take a large number of prisoners in this battle. For this, Baumeister received the order Pour le Mérite after the peace treaty on September 20, 1866 .

Baumeister became a lieutenant colonel on June 18, 1869 and as such took part in the war against France in 1870 . He fought in the battle at Chevilly as well as in the siege of Paris and served from November 15, 1870 to June 23, 1871 as regimental commander. After the war and the victorious entry of the troops into Berlin on June 16, 1871, Baumeister was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross by King Wilhelm I and raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility “because of his bravery demonstrated before the enemy” .

On July 20, 1871, Baumeister was appointed commander of the 3rd Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 79 in Hildesheim and in this position was promoted to colonel on August 18, 1871 . For his services in the troop leadership he received the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 19, 1874 . Class with a bow. On May 18, 1876 Baumeister was awarded the character as a major general with the statutory board for disposition made.

He died of a stroke .

family

Baumeister had married Marie Emilie von Heydebrand and the Lasa , divorced Countess von Wartensleben (1821–1873) in Gontkowitz on September 25, 1856 . She was the daughter of Major General Heinrich von Heydebrand and Lasa . After her death, he married Jeanette Auguste Helene Elli Freiin von Nostitz-Jänkendorf (1858–1918) in Breslau on October 30, 1879 . The marriages were childless.
