Helmut Nies

Helmut Nies (born September 5, 1930 in Weidenau (Siegen) ; † June 5, 2015 ) was a German officer most recently in the rank of Brigadier General in the Bundeswehr .

education

Helmut Nies grew up in Siegen and graduated from high school there. After training as an industrial clerk , he studied technical economics and political science in Karlsruhe and Graz in 1953 . In Karlsruhe he became a member of the Teutonia fraternity . In 1959 he was promoted to Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

armed forces

In 1959 it joined the Feldzeugtruppe as a shooter OA . In 1960 he was promoted to lieutenant . From 1961 to 1963 he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences of the Army 1 in Darmstadt with an engineering degree. In 1970 he became a major , in 1970 a lieutenant colonel and in 1972 a colonel . In 1980, Nies became department head and general of the technical troops in the Army Office . He was later promoted to brigadier general.

Among other things , Nies was a platoon leader , lecture hall manager , company commander , department head , battalion commander , deputy brigade commander , stage manager of the repair force and advisor to the Federal Ministry of Defense .

In 1990 Nies was a founding member and first chairman of the “Blauer Bund” association, an interest group for logistics, armaments and use in the German armed forces.

Personal

Nies was married and had five daughters and one son.
