Helmut Schödel (* 1950 in Hof ) is a German dramaturge , director and columnist .

biography

Helmut Schödel studied German and English in Würzburg and Munich . In 1975 he published his first publications in Theater heute and in the Süddeutsche Zeitung and since then has also worked for broadcasters, including BR , WDR and Radio Bremen .

From 1976 to 1997 he was a columnist for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit , focusing on theater , literature and cinema - film . Between 1995 and 1997 Helmut Schödel was also a dramaturgic advisor at the Schauspielhaus (Vienna) . In 1997 Helmut Schödel received a teaching position at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , Erich Wonder stage design class .

In 1996 he developed the program concept for the Wiener Festwochen 1996 (“Paralysis - 1000 Years of Austria”) and in 1997 and 1998 for the Styrian Autumn 98 (“Schedule - A theater season in 14 days”). In 2002 Helmut Schödel directed the Stadttheater Rabenhof in Vienna (“Austria's greatest entertainer”) and in the same year directed (together with Heribert Sasse ) and dramaturgy at the Schlossparktheater in Berlin (“Stories from the Vienna Woods”).

Between 2003 and 2005 he was Professor of Dramaturgy at the Mozarteum Art University in Salzburg .

In 2007, Helmut Schödel curated the retrospective on Peter Kern for Filmarchiv Austria . In 2008/2009 he was responsible for the production dramaturgy of the world premiere of Bertolt Brecht's “Die Judith von Shimoda” at the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna. In 2019 and 2020 Helmut Schödel was artistic advisor to Anna Badora, who was artistic director of the Volkstheater Wien from the 2015/19 to 2019/20 season.

He has been writing for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and other media since 1999 .
