Helmut Stubbe da Luz (actually Helmut Stubbe-Esperança da Luz , née Stubbe; born December 17, 1950 in Braunschweig ) is a German historian , philosopher and publicist . In the 1980s he was also a student and local politician in Hamburg .

Stubbe da Luz studied history, philosophy, Romance studies and pedagogy at the University of Hamburg from 1971 and passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools in 1977. In 1975/76 he worked as a research assistant at Günter Moltmann's chair for overseas and colonial history . From 1977 to 1985 he worked as an honorary lecturer for the Federal Agency for Civic Education , the Hamburg State Agency for Civic Education , the Federal Ministry for Internal German Relations and various independent educational institutions. At the same time, he completed his teaching internship from 1979 to 1981 as well as an administrative internship as a Joseph Bech scholarship holder at the European Parliament in Luxembourg . In addition, he received a Robert Schuman grant from the FVS Foundation in Hamburg.

From 1981 Stubbe da Luz worked as a philosophy teacher in Hamburg, interrupted by a stay abroad from 1994–1997 at the Franco-German high school (Lycée Franco-allemand) in Buc (Yvelines) . In 1991 he received his doctorate under Werner Jochmann , followed by his habilitation in 2002 at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg . Since then he has been teaching there as a private lecturer for modern and contemporary history and presenting historical exhibitions in the university library.

Since 2005 Stubbe da Luz has been a board member (2012-2017 chairman) of the Association for the History of the World System, which was founded by the Hanoverian Eastern European historian Hans-Heinrich Nolte and publishes the magazine for world history.

From 2016 to 2019 he was chairman of the Bergstedt e. V. in Hamburg.

politics

During his studies, Stubbe da Luz was chairman of the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS) Hamburg from 1974 to 1977 , and from 1977 to 1980 he was regional manager of the Young European Federalists Hamburg e. V. and, until 1981, country manager of the Europa-Union Hamburg e. V. under the chairman Hans-Joachim Seeler . From 1981 to 1990 he belonged to the CDU of the District Assembly Hamburg-Mitte on.

In 1991, Stubbe da Luz was one of the founders of the party-critical association Democratic Openness (DemO e.V. ) - alongside politicians from the CDU ( Winfried Steffani , Markus E. Wegner ), SPD ( Claus Arndt , Ulf Skirke ), Greens ( Martin Schmidt ) and non-party members .) and was chairman until 1994. This association primarily criticized the way in which candidates were drawn up within the CDU and advocated opening up the system of financing political education and generally for reforms in the German party state. In the course of this commitment, Stubbe da Luz left the CDU in 1993 and was a member of the FDP from 1994 to 1999 .

philosophy

In 2011, Stubbe da Luz and the philosopher Tanja Trede-Schicker founded the non-profit association Philopraxis No 1 for rational argumentation and spiritual wellbeing. V. Since then, this philosophical practice has mainly offered "philosophical discussions" in Hamburg and the surrounding area, as well as weekend seminars, philosophical consultations, intensive courses and adult education courses. Since 2015, Philopraxis No 1 has been celebrating the UNESCO World Philosophy Day every year .
