Henrik Birch

Henrik Birch (born September 5, 1956 in Bjergby , Hjørring Kommune ) is a Danish actor .

Life

Birch was born in the Nordjylland region in northern Denmark. He completed his acting training from 1976 to 1979 at the Danish State Theater School (Statens Teaterskole) in Copenhagen .

Birch initially worked mainly as a theater actor . He began his stage career in the 1979/80 season at the Odense City Theater . In the 1980s and 1990s engagements followed at Mammutteatret in Copenhagen (1983, 1984), Det Ny Teater (1984), Aarhus Teater (1990, 1991), Café Teatret (1998) and Holbæk Teater (1999).

Later stage engagements he had u. a. at Grønnegårds Teatret (2009), at Mammutteatret in Copenhagen (2006), at Teater Får 302 in Copenhagen (2008, in the leading role in Klumpfisken ), in the theater project Operanord (2008), at Teamteatret in Copenhagen (September / October 2011, in one Theater version of Rainman , as Autistic Raymond with the role of Dustin Hoffman ), at the Grob Theater in Copenhagen (February – April 2011, in Labyrinten by Thomas Levin ) and at the Aalborg Teater (2013). For his role in Labyrinten he received a 2011 nomination for the Danish Theater Prize Reumert in the category “ Best Supporting Actor ”.

From September 2012 to November 2012 he played Father Capulet in Romeo og Julie at the Folketeatret in Copenhagen . In January 2013 he performed at Teater Får 302 in Copenhagen in a stage version of Ingmar Bergmans Ritualet . In November 2016 he took part in a production of Operanord in a staged reading of the novella Babettes Fest by Karen Blixen at the Royal Theater Copenhagen (Det Kongelige Teater). In 2017 he appeared at Nørrebro Teater in De danser alene by Anders Fogh Jensen . In the 2017/18 season he appears in Eugene O'Neill's family drama One Long Day Journey into the Night at the Aalborg Theater .

Birch also worked for cinema, film, and television. Birch worked u. a. in the films In the Hour of the Lynx (2013) and The Idealist - Secret Files Greenland (2015). In the Danish film Klumpfisken (2014) by director Søren Balle , Birch played the male lead, 45-year-old Fischer Kesse, who comes from a third-generation fisherman's family, is fighting for financial survival in North Jutland , and despite the diversity of their characters, in love with a Copenhagen marine biologist . For his role, Birch received the Danish Film Prize Bodil in 2015 and the Danish Film and Television Prize Robert , each in the category “Best Male Leading Role”.

Birch is married to the set designer Louise Beck. He is a member of the Danish Actors' Association (Dansk Skuespillerforbund).
