Henry E. Eccles
Henry Effingham Eccles (born December 31, 1898 in Bayside , Queens County , New York , † May 14, 1986 in Needham , Massachusetts ) was an American Rear Admiral in the US Navy , who, among other things, taught naval logistics and research as an author and researcher Military theory at Naval War College in the 1940s to 1970s significantly shaped.
Life
Eccles came after visiting the Columbia College of Columbia University in the US Naval Academy in Annapolis one. After graduation in 1922, he found uses as a naval officer on submarines , battleships , cruisers and destroyers . In the meantime, he completed postgraduate studies at Columbia University, which he completed in 1930 with a Master of Science (MS).
During the Second World War he was in command of the destroyer USS John D. Edwards . After training at the US Army War College in 1943 he joined the Department of the Navy ( US Department of the Navy ) , before he then used in the service force of the US Pacific Fleet was. He was also a graduate of Naval War College, Newport .
After the war ended, Eccles was in command of the USS Washington , a North Carolina-class battleship , from 1946 to 1947 , before serving as the first director of logistics at Naval War College from 1947 to 1951. He remained connected to this department as a consultant for the next three decades and shaped the teaching of naval logistics and military theory at the Naval War College through his research and specialist books, in particular through his collaboration with Herbert Rosinski .
In 1951 he moved as Rear Admiral to the newly created Allied Forces Southern Europe (AFSOUTH) and was there at the headquarters in Naples until his retirement on June 30, 1952, Vice Chief of Staff for Logistics. He then became a researcher on the Logistic Research Project at George Washington University and the Ohio State University Research Foundation . The Henry E. Eccles Library was named in his honor , a library located in the Naval War College building named after H. Kent Hewitt .
