Henry Krtschil
Henry Krtschil , also Krtschyl (born October 3, 1932 in Dresden ; † July 7, 2020 in Berlin ), was a German composer , conductor and pianist .
Life
After graduating from high school in 1951, Henry Krtschil studied from 1951 to 1956 at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin . He then worked for a year as a tutor at the State Ballet School in Berlin . In 1957 he played Hanns Eisler , who brought him to the Berliner Ensemble . Krtschil worked here until 1970 as a repetitor and deputy musical director. In the 1950s, Krtschil began working with Gisela May , with whom he remained musically connected for over 30 years. From 1970 he worked for the Volksbühne Berlin . The most important works during this period include the composition for the trilogy Der Bauch by Kurt Bartsch , which was awarded the Critics' Prize, and the setting of Heiner Müller's Die Schlacht . At the Volksbühne, Krtschil worked with Benno Besson and Erich Engel , among others . From 1977 Krtschil worked as a freelancer and in 1991 went to the Theater im Palais in Berlin. Here he was active as a composer, but also as a pianist. In 1999 he retired from the stage.
Parallel to his stage work, he also composed film scores for GDR television , including for Der Hase und der Igel , Polizeiruf 110: The Last Customer or the TV series Pensioners Have Never Time . He also set texts by writers such as Erich Kästner , Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Tucholsky to music .
In 1977 he was awarded the GDR Art Prize.
Krtschil lived in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain. He died on July 7, 2020 at the age of 87 and found his final resting place in St. Hedwig-Friedhof II in Berlin-Weißensee , Smetanastraße 36-54.
