Herbert Kroker
Herbert Kroker (born August 24, 1929 in Groß Merzdorf , Lower Silesia ) is a former German combine director and SED functionary.
Life
Kroker, the son of a working-class family, began a commercial apprenticeship after completing elementary school in 1944/1945. In 1945 he was drafted into the Volkssturm and was taken prisoner by the Soviets , where he remained for four months.
After the Second World War , he first worked as a farm worker on a Polish state estate and then completed an apprenticeship as a building fitter from 1946 to 1949 . Until 1953 he worked in this profession in the factory “G. Kohl ”in Chemnitz and as a fitter in the VEB Lufttechnische Anlagen Berlin . In 1953 he joined the Free German Trade Union Federation and in 1954 the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From 1953 to 1955 he worked as a skilled worker and was chairman of the works union management (BGL) in VEB Starkstromanlagenbau Karl-Marx-Stadt, from 1958 to 1961 he was BGL chairman in VEB Industriewerke Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1957/58 he studied at the IG Metall central school . From 1961 to 1963, Kroker was chairman of the IG Metall district executive in the Karl-Marx-Stadt district . 1963/64 he was the organizer of the FDGB federal executive committee in the VVB machine tools Karl-Marx-Stadt, from 1964 to 1968 there was party organizer of the Central Committee of the SED . From 1967 to 1968, Kroker completed a distance learning course at the Berlin School of Economics with a degree in economics.
In 1969/1970 he worked as plant director at VEB Pressen- und Scherenbau Erfurt, and from 1970 as general director of VEB Kombinat Umformtechnik "Herbert Warnke" Erfurt. 1979 doctorate he attended the Party School "Karl Marx" to Dr. rer. oec. From 1976 he was a member of the Erfurt District Assembly , from 1979 a member of the SED city leadership in Erfurt and from 1981 to 1986 a member of the SED district leadership in Erfurt . From 1981 to 1986 he was a member of the People's Chamber and a member of the committee for industry, construction and transport.
In 1983 he was replaced as general director due to differences with the Central Committee secretary Günter Mittag, who was responsible for the economy , and was transferred to Apolda as director of the VEB fire extinguishing equipment factory. He then worked from 1986 to 1989 as director of the VEB Weimar plant for agricultural machinery.
After the resignation of the Politburo and the Central Committee in November 1989, Kroker was elected First Secretary of the SED district leadership in Erfurt, headed the SED's temporary working committee until the party congress on December 8, 1989 and then belonged to the newly elected party executive. From 1990 Kroker was a member of the PDS.
