Hans Kiefer (born June 1, 1905 in Berlin ; † December 29, 1966 there ) was a German politician ( KPD / SED ) and resistance fighter against National Socialism . He was first secretary of the SED district leaderships in Berlin and Erfurt .

Life

Kiefer, son of an employee, attended elementary and advanced training school. From 1919 he trained as a carpenter and worked in this profession until 1925. Between 1919 and 1928 Kiefer was a member of the German Woodworkers' Association . In 1920 he joined the Communist Youth Association (KJVD), in 1923 he became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). In 1925 he traveled to the Soviet Union as a member of the first German youth delegation . At the 9th Reich Congress in Halle (Saale) in October 1925 , Kiefer became a member of the Central Committee of the KJVD, to which he belonged until 1929. In 1926/27 he acted as secretary of the KJVD district of Upper Silesia in Gleiwitz . In 1927/28 he was secretary of the KJVD in Berlin, from April to September 1928 then secretary in Hamburg . Between October 1928 and November 1929 he served as the second chairman of the Central Committee of the KJVD. In 1929/30 he was organizational secretary of the KPD district leadership Palatinate , from August 1930 to the end of 1931 he was active in the same function in the KPD district leadership Hesse - Frankfurt . From January 1932 onwards, he was part of the secretariat of the KPD district leadership in Halle- Merseburg .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists , from March 1933 onwards, he headed the illegal KPD Mittelrhein in Cologne . On May 5, 1933, he was arrested in Cologne and was then imprisoned as a "protective prisoner" in Cologne and in the Brauweiler concentration camp . After his release in June 1935, he was unemployed until 1937. In 1937 he found a job as a carpenter at Mitropa in Berlin. From May to July 1938 he was imprisoned again, this time in the Esterwegen and Börgermoor camps . He then worked again as a carpenter at Mitropa until 1943. Kiefer had contacts with the resistance group around Anton Saefkow . From 1943 to 1945 he did military service in the Wehrmacht and in May 1945 was taken prisoner by the Soviets in Poland .

In December 1946 he returned to Germany and became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). From January 1947 he was first head of department, then secretary and from September 1947 equal district chairman of the SED Berlin-Friedrichshain . Between January 1949 and October 1950 he headed the organization and instruction department in the SED regional leadership for Greater Berlin. After studying at the party academy in Kleinmachnow , from November 1951 to 1953 he was chairman of the state or district party control commission of the SED Greater Berlin.

From August 1953 to 1957 he acted as First Secretary of the Erfurt District Management of the SED and from February 1957 to 1959 as First Secretary of the Berlin District Management of the SED. From February 1959 to November 1963 he was the second secretary of the SED district leadership in Berlin. From 1954 to 1966 he was also a member of the Central Committee of the SED.

From 1954 to 1966 he was a member of the Volkskammer (from 1958 as Berlin representative), from 1958 to 1966 city councilor of Berlin. Between 1963 and 1966 he was also a member of the Magistrate of Greater Berlin and City Councilor for Labor and State Bodies.
