Herbert Mogg
Herbert Mogg (born May 12, 1927 in Vienna ; † April 1, 2012 in Athens ) was an Austrian composer and conductor who was best known for conducting Viennese operettas at various music theaters .
Life
After attending school, Mogg studied piano and composition at the State Academy for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and composed numerous hits at the end of the 1940s that contained elements of operetta, but also swing and dances such as slow fox . Well-known compositions of this time included “Who in England can't speak English” (1947), “A summer night, a summer night has kindled my heart to glow” (1948), “My great love is wine!” (1948) and “You are a riddle for me… ”(1948).
After his first engagement at Scala Vienna, which closed on June 30, 1956, he worked as a conductor of Viennese operettas at various music theaters in Austria and Germany . The meeting with the composer Hanns Eisler and the director Walter Felsenstein was of great importance for this activity .
After he was the theater bandmaster organist at the Catholic parish church of St. Marien in Hof an der Saale between 1966 and 1968 , he became a conductor at the Raimund Theater in Vienna in 1969 and worked there until 1985. In 1977 he became director of the theater as the successor to Rudolf Marik . During the many years of collaboration between him and Marik, the operetta with Johannes Heesters , Marika Rökk , Zarah Leander and other well-known actors and singers experienced a climax.
He then moved to the Vienna Volkstheater as a conductor in 1985 , where he worked under director Paul Blaha until 1987 . In 1987 he became a conductor at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich and worked there until 1999. In 2000, his operetta Das Mädchen vom Rialto was premiered there .
In addition to his engagement there, he was also the guest conductor of numerous well-known orchestras such as the Paris Opera , the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn .
