Herbert Christian Ulrich Otto Wilk (born May 10, 1905 in Gnoien , † November 2, 1977 in Berlin ) was a German actor .

Life

After attending secondary school in Berlin, the engineer son from Mecklenburg received private acting lessons from Herbert Hainisch and Gustav Müller and made his debut in 1927 at the Green Stage in Thale / Harz. In the following years he played at theaters in Brandenburg , Memel , Leipzig and Hamburg before coming to Berlin in 1934. There he could be seen until the end of the war in the Komödienhaus, the Renaissance theater and the Berlin soldiers' theater .

Herbert Wilk made his film debut in 1936. He was made famous by two central, soldier hero figures in propaganda films of the Third Reich: He was the squadron captain Oberleutnant Schwarz in Karl Ritter's Stukas and the captainleutnant Hoffmeister in Günther Rittau 's submarines westwards! . In the anti-Semitic work Die Rothschilds , which was also created in 1940, Wilk took on a rather unimportant supporting role with the part of Gisela Uhlen's fiancé , George Crayton. Shortly before, he had played another leading role with the friend of the title hero, Inspector Brandner, in the crime film Kriminalkommissar Eyck . Wilk did appear in front of the camera after the war - with rather indifferent results; until the founding of the GDR exclusively in DEFA productions.

His main field of activity after 1945, however, remained the stage ( Barlogs Schloßpark- and Schiller-Theater ), where he was particularly cast in modern plays. Since the beginning of the television age in post-war Germany, he has also appeared in television films again and again, for example in Eine von Sieben, Waldhausstrasse 20, Der Mantel, Das Bild des Menschen, and appeared on Berliner Rundfunk ( RIAS ). He also worked as a voice actor.
