Adolf Drechsler

Hermann Adolf Drechsler (born January 30, 1815 in Waldkirchen im Erzgebirge , † August 29, 1888 in Dresden ) was a German astronomer , meteorologist and philosopher .

Life

Hermann Adolf Drechsler attended the city school in Sayda from 1825 , the grammar school in Bautzen from 1829 and the Kreuzschule in Dresden from 1832 , before moving to the University of Leipzig in 1836 to study theology and philosophy. There he passed the theological exam in 1840 and obtained a doctorate in the philosophy faculty in 1843. In the following year he turned to the University of Basel to study philosophy and natural sciences and worked there after his habilitation from 1846 to 1848 as a private lecturer in mathematics and philosophy. In 1848 he returned to Dresden and was there until 1853 teacher of mathematics and physics at the Blochmann educational institution associated with the Vitzthum grammar school. From 1853 he worked as a private teacher in Dresden, including at the commercial school, until he was appointed director of the mathematical-physical salon in the civil service in 1869 . He held this position until his death. In 1878 he was appointed councilor .

Adolf Drechsler was a member of numerous associations and learned societies: since 1854 of the association for the promotion of natural history " ISIS " in Dresden, where he was secretary and co-chair of the mathematical-physical section from 1855 to 1865. He was also a member of the Société Impériale des Naturalistes de Moscou , the Imperial and Royal Geological Institute in Vienna , the Société linnéenne de Lyon , the Natural Research Society in Emden , the Historical Society in Basel , the Society for Nature and Medicine in Dresden , the ISIS to Bautzen and a few more. On March 1, 1863 he was admitted to the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina with the nickname Bradley . In Dresden he was a member of the Masonic lodge Zum golden Apfel .

Drechsler married Marie von Otto in 1854, with whom he had a daughter.
