Hermann Marchl (born January 15, 1942 in Marburg ) is a former German soccer player . The defensive player played 248 league games and scored three goals for SpVgg Fürth in the second-rate Regionalliga Süd from 1966 to 1974 .

Player career

Marburg and Nuremberg, until 1966

The defender learned to play football at VfL Marburg in the Hessian amateur area. Due to his above-average defensive qualities, he played his way into the DFB national youth team through the Hessian youth team . He made his debut on March 26, 1960 at the international match in Bregenz against Austria at the side of players such as Dieter Kurrat , Karl-Heinz Bente , Werner Ipta , Kurt Haseneder and Gerhard Elfert as a left wing runner in the then World Cup system in the DFB-Elf. The game ended 2-2 in a draw. The talent from Marburg was part of the squad for the UEFA youth tournament in Austria in April 1960 . He was used in all three German group matches against Turkey (1: 0), Hungary (1: 1) and the GDR (1: 1). The standard runner series ran with Marchl, Jürgen Neumann and Stefan Reisch . Marchl also played the two other international youth matches against England (3-1) and Denmark (1-0) in 1960.

With the blue-red “Schimmelreitern” he finished third in the Hessen League in 1960/61 and 1961/62 with teammates like Georg and Karl August Tripp . After the disappointing sixth place in 1962/63, he accepted the offer from 1. FC Nürnberg and moved to the Bundesliga for the debut round in 1963/64 . Since coach Herbert Widmayer was dismissed at the end of October 1963, he could not prevail in the Franconian team. He didn't get a chance under Widmayer's successor Jenö Csaknady . In defense, the “Club” relied on players like Ferdinand Wenauer , Paul Derbfuß , Horst Leupold , Fritz Popp , Karl-Heinz Ferschl and Stefan Reisch . After three unsatisfactory sporting rounds, he moved to the 1966/67 season for SpVgg Fürth in the second -rate regional soccer league south ; he was accompanied by Gustav Flachenecker and Jürgen Billmann .

Fürth, 1966 to 1974

With the "Club" reinforcements - Paul Derbfuß and Richard Albrecht had already switched to the "Kleeblatt" eleven the year before - Fürth played seriously for the championship win in the Regionalliga Süd in 1966/67 under coach Robert Gebhardt . Marchl immediately belonged to the regular line-up and won with his new team on August 20, 1966 with 3-1 goals in the season opening game in Ronhof at home against VfR Mannheim. In the first half of the season, the green-whites only lost the two away games against championship rivals Kickers Offenbach and Bayern Hof, each with 0: 1. It was the only two defeats in the autumn series that Fürth finished with 27: 7 points. In the second half of the season they played against Offenbach in front of 18,000 spectators 0-0 and against Hof in front of 16,000 spectators 1: 1. But since you lost the matches against VfR Mannheim (1: 2), FC Schweinfurt 05 (0: 1), SSV Reutlingen (1: 4) and Freiburg FC (2: 3; three goals by Gerd Klier ), proved at the end of the round with two points behind Offenbach and Hof, the ungrateful third place in the table. Marchl had played 30 of 34 league games and center forward Bernd Windhausen had conquered the top scorer in the south with 32 goals. On the 34th matchday, a 4-0 home win against Schwaben Augsburg was of no use to the table. Fürth had played this game with the players Peter Löwer (goalkeeper), Paul Derbfuß, Robert Schmid , Hermann Marchl, Dieter Emmerling , Robert Ehrlinger , Richard Albrecht, Jürgen Billmann, Bernd Windhausen, Erich Tauchmann and Rainer Boden . Heinz Kraus (goalkeeper), Klaus Slatina , Ernst Perras and Norbert Knopf also belonged to the regular formation in this successful round .

Fürth could not repeat this performance in the next few years and ended the era of the second-rate regional league 1973/74 with a tenth place in the table. Marchl had always been part of the regular cast; in the 1971/72 season, coach Werner Bickelhaupt was dismissed in February 1972, he even held the position of coach on an interim basis in February before Heinz Elzner took over the job in March . After eight rounds with Fürth in the Regionalliga Süd, Marchl ended his higher-class career in the summer of 1974.

He went back to the amateur camp and let his career at FSV Erlangen-Bruck end in 1974/75.
