August Hermann von Leslie (born October 7, 1819 in Königsberg ; † February 10, 1898 there ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Hermann was a son of the Prussian captain in the 5th Infantry Regiment , Peter Heinrich von Leslie (1780-1821) and his wife Charlotte Lucie, née Werner (1795-1885).

Career

Leslie attended the cadets houses in Kulm and Berlin Subsequently, it was on August 5, 1837 extrabudgetary second lieutenant of the 1st Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army transferred. For further training, Leslie graduated from the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1838 to September 1839 and was appointed artillery officer on January 7, 1840 with a patent from October 7, 1837. By the beginning of June 1855 he was promoted to captain, from July 2, 1857 to April 17, 1865, he was chief of the 1st Cavalry Battery and was then promoted to Major Leader of Division II. This was followed on December 15, 1865, when he was appointed commander of the riding division. In this capacity, Leslie led his department in 1866 in the war against Austria at Trautenau , Tobitschau and Königgrätz .

After the war he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1868 and appointed commander of the fortress artillery regiment No. 5 on May 31, 1870 . During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , after the surrender of Strasbourg from November 2, 1870, he was in command of the artillery garrison of the fortress there . On the day of the imperial proclamation , Leslie was promoted to colonel on January 18, 1871 and awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He briefly returned to his peace relationship on April 1, 1871, and was appointed commander of Field Artillery Regiment No. 15 in Strasbourg on July 26, 1871 . In approval of his resignation Leslie was put on September 15, 1874 under the bestowal of the character as major general to the disposition .

family

Leslie married on October 7, 1842 in Marggrabowa Veronica von Morstein (1822-1901), a daughter of the district administrator Karl Heinrich von Morstein ; her sister Emmilie (1827–1866) was married to the Prussian major general August von Kleist (1818–1890). The couple had five daughters and one son.
