Life

Origin and family

Hermann came from the noble house of Waldeck-Pyrmont . His parents were Prince Georg I von Waldeck and Pyrmont (1747-1813) and Princess Auguste von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . So he belonged to the Waldeck family . Prince George II (1789–1845) was his older brother. He himself married Countess Agnes Teleki von Szék (1814–1896) in 1833 . The marriage remained childless.

Military career

Waldeck began his career as an officer in the Prussian army in 1826 as a prime lieutenant aggregated to the Guards Dragoon Regiment . In 1828 he was assigned to the regiment. An assessment by his regimental commander, Lieutenant Colonel von Barner, comes from this year :

“With zeal, punctuality and activity on duty, Prince Waldeck has earned the satisfaction of his superiors, and with his undemanding, cordial and comradely demeanor the love of the officer corps. In his economic circumstances he shows a great, very reprehensible deficiency. "

Already in 1830 his departure was granted and he changed to Austrian service as a sub-lieutenant in the Chevaulegers regiment "Prince of Hohenzollern" (No. 2) . In 1832 he was promoted to first lieutenant in the Chevaulegers regiment "Count O'Reilly" (No. 3) and in 1833 retired from the Austrian service.

In 1852 he was colonel in command of the Waldeck Fusilier Battalion . In 1868 he became a Prussian major general à la suite of the army and in 1869 received the schaumburg-Lippe House Order, 1st class . Prince Waldeck received the character of Lieutenant General in 1871.
