Mimi Herold

Hermine "Mimi" Herold (born Schramm , also known as Egerländer Nachtigall ; born September 2, 1925 in Plan , Czechoslovakia ; † July 20, 2015 in Aschaffenburg ) was a German folk music singer .

Life

Mimi Herold was born in 1925 as the daughter of a businessman in Plan near Marienbad and grew up with six brothers. She attended the elementary and community school in Plan and received violin and piano lessons. She also taught herself to play the accordion . After the family was expelled due to the Beneš decrees , she came to Wolnzach and settled in Aschaffenburg in 1946. There she worked in a butcher's shop in Schweinheim . In 1949 she married Franz Herold, who died in 2003.

In the 1950s she began her music career from 1953 to 1956 with performances in her own inn . In the meantime, she completed a vocal course. Herold now appeared as a singer of popular music and played the accordion. She released her first record in the early 1960s . During the 1960s to 1980s she performed 100 to 120 concerts annually and performed in Europe and North and South America. Furthermore, she appeared regularly on television, including in the superhit parade of folk music . In 1981 and 1982 she was the annual winner of the popular hit parade of Südwestfunk.

At the Egerlandtag 2005 she was awarded the Johannes-von-Tepl-Kulturpreis . Furthermore, she was the holder of the Federal Republic's Medal of Merit. She was nicknamed "Egerländer Nachtigall" in 1960 from Ernst Bartl, the national head of the Egerländer Gmoi association of expellees . Herold died in July 2015 and was buried in the Schweinheim cemetery.
