HeroQuest is the software implementation of the board game of the same name by MB Spiele . It was adapted by the British development studio Gremlin Graphics Software and published in 1991 for Acorn Archimedes , Amiga , Amstrad CPC , Atari ST , Commodore 64 , MS-DOS and ZX Spectrum . It is one of the earliest software implementations for the role-playing game world Warhammer Fantasy . In the same year, the developer released an expansion called HeroQuest: Return of the Witch Lord .
Gameplay
HeroQuest consists of 14 levels that can be played either alone or with up to four other players on one device. There are four hero characters to choose from (magician, elf, barbarian, dwarf), the fifth player takes on the role of the opponent. The game principle provides for the exploration of a dungeon and the solution of a specific task ( quest ), which also includes battles against hostile creatures. The playing card is divided into square fields and presents itself in a three-dimensional isometric perspective . The game is turn-based.
With the expansion HeroQuest: Return of the Witch Lord , Gremlin delivered further quests that are based on the expansion of the board game of the same name.
reception
|
While the British Amiga magazines wrote benevolent reviews, the German computer game press rated the game more cautiously.
"Implementation regardless of implementation: With Hero Quest, Gremlin should have detached himself a little more from the board template and should have resorted to 16-bit technology."
"Hero Quest is an enjoyable piece of software indeed, and one of the best multiplayer experiences available for the Amiga."
"Hero Quest is indeed a fun piece of software and one of the best multiplayer experiences you can get on the Amiga."
