Space Crusade

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Space Crusade is the software implementation of the board game of the same name by MB Spiele (published in Germany as StarQuest ). It was adapted by the British development studio Gremlin Graphics Software and published in 1992 for Amiga , Amstrad CPC , Atari ST , Commodore 64 , MS-DOS and ZX Spectrum . It is one of the earliest software implementations for the role-playing game world Warhammer 40,000 .

Gameplay

Space Crusade is - like the HeroQuest also developed by Gremlin - a detailed implementation of the board game that gives it its name. Up to three players each control a group of Space Marines when exploring a spaceship wreck (so-called Space Hulk ) in the fight against computer-controlled alien opponents. The aim is to eliminate all opponents or to destroy certain facilities. The game is round-based, the playing field is largely presented from a two-dimensional bird's eye view, but also switches to a three-dimensional isometric perspective during fights .

reception

The game was praised in the press for its detailed implementation. In a 1993 reader survey by the computer game magazine Your Sinclair , Space Crusade was voted 24th of the 100 best ZX Spectrum games.

In the same year Gremlin released an expansion disk with the title Space Crusade: The Voyage Beyond , for Amiga and Atari ST. It contained several new levels and was available in a version including the base game and just the new playing cards.
