Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a third-person shooter from the American development studio Relic Entertainment , which was published in 2011 via THQ . It is based on the world of the tabletop rulebook Warhammer 40,000 from Games Workshop .

action

The player takes on the role of Captain Titus, a Space Marine from the order of the Ultramarines. He is supposed to push back the orc invaders on the industrial planet Graia and prevent them from gaining possession of the super weapon stored there.

Gameplay

The player controls his character Captain Titus from the perspective of the pursuer and fights numerically superior enemy units with the help of long-range and close combat weapons. He receives support from two companions, Veteran Sergeant Sidonus and Veteran Leandros. The game consists of a series of linear levels through which the squad fights. There is no cover system like in similarly designed games of the genre (e.g. Gears of War ). The character is protected by a regenerating protective shield; if this fails, life energy is withdrawn. Killing enemies increases a so-called ferocity bar, which can be filled up and used to trigger a berserk mode. In this mode, Titus regenerates life energy and causes a lot of damage with his attacks.

development

The first details about the game were announced in September 2008. Originally there were plans for a trilogy. The soundtrack was composed by Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan .

"Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is on the shallow side, but it still serves up plenty of 'waaagh!'."

"Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is on the superficial side, but it still offers a lot of 'waagh!'."

- Kevin VanOrd : Gamespot review

"Gears of War for the poor: With the varied gameplay, pale heroes and stupid combat system, boredom ultimately wins the war for the factory world!"

- Michael Krosta : Test report 4Players

A sequel was ruled out by THQ's Vice President Danny Bilson in October 2011. The game is selling well, but not good enough. Other reasons were a lack of development resources and a deadline collision with another planned Warhammer 40k game.
