Blood Bowl is a computer game released in 1995 by Destiny Software Productions. It is based on the board game of the same name by Games Workshop and is a turn-based strategy game with a sports theme in a fantasy scenario ( Warhammer Fantasy ).
Gameplay
In the game, different races from the role-playing universe Warhammer Fantasy compete against each other in a sports competition based on American football . In addition to the sporting goal of achieving as many touchdowns as possible, targeted attacking the opposing team members is part of the game principle. The characters can be seriously injured or even killed. The game happens turn-based. Various action points are available to the player with which he can plan his turn. These include passing and running plays or attacks against opposing team members.
As a game mode, you can choose between a single game and a league mode. The player selects a team from the various fantasy races such as humans or orcs. A game is divided into two halves with eight rounds per team. Whoever scores the most touchdowns wins the game. In league mode, new players can be signed up to strengthen the team and replace players who have been killed.
reception
|
Martin E. Cirulis from Computer Gaming World complained that the game was not based on the developments in sports simulations. This would repeat problems and inadequacies that have long been resolved. Dan Bennett from the American PC Gamer also saw wasted potential, but described it as a must-buy for fans of the board game. Paul Murphy of the role-playing magazine Dragon , however, called it a disappointment.
The license was taken up again more than ten years later by the French developer Cyanide Studios . Blood Bowl was released in 2009, Blood Bowl 2 in 2015 .
