Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels is a tactical action computer game released by Electronic Arts in 1995 and the sequel to Space Hulk . It is based on the board game of the same name by Games Workshop and is set in the world of the role-playing universe Warhammer 40,000 . The player controls a group of space soldiers in the fight against hostile aliens. It was released for 3DO , MS-DOS , Windows , PlayStation and Sega Saturn .

action

The planet Delvar 3 is on a collision course with a large pile of space junk known as the Space Hulk. On board the Space Hulk are aliens from the Genestealers, who prefer to raid defenseless colonies in order to fill their gene pool with the colonists and thus reproduce. The player and his squad of Terminators should change the course of the Space Hulk and thus save the colony from extinction.

Gameplay

There are several different game modes. The Space Hulk Originals mode includes adaptations of the original board game, the Space Hulk Classic mode missions from the predecessor from 1993. The Famous missions present special challenges with a ranking. The fourth mode is the story campaign, consisting of 20 missions.

The player receives the command of a terminator from the Space Marine order of the Blood Angels, which are supposed to bring the Space Hulk on a new course. He moves his Terminator in real time from a first-person perspective through the winding corridors and fights opposing aliens, mainly from the Genestealers, but also hybrids or Chaos Space Marines. Initially purely a recipient of orders, the player increases in rank over time and thus later receives command of all Space Marines active in the level. With each successfully completed level, the Space Marines get stronger. However, compared to its predecessor, there is no free choice of weapons before the start of the mission. In order to be able to coordinate his own squad in peace, the player can switch to a tactical overview map. The time is stopped there for a limited time and the player can give his soldiers instructions in the form of a chain of command. When the time has elapsed, the view changes back to the first person perspective of the last selected Space Marine. The mission objectives vary from collecting certain items, sealing passages to completely clearing entire areas of enemies.
