Herz Jesu church west gable

The Herz-Jesu-Kirche is the former Catholic parish church in Oberlohberg in Hiesfeld, a district of Dinslaken . Since 1994 it was part of the parish Hl. Geist in Hiesfeld as a branch church . Since 2012 it has belonged to the parish of St. Vincentius , which extends to the entire city area.

Location

The church is located far outside the Hiesfelder village on the highest point of Lohberg near the A3 (Oberhausen - Arnhem), not to be confused with the near Lohberg that are available heaps Great and Little Lohberg, as plant landfills Lohberger mine served and later emerged.

Why the church was built far from the Hiesfeld village center can no longer be clearly explained. It is to be assumed that they were looking for the proximity of the mines and industrial areas , which were quickly emerging at that time, and assumed that industrial settlements , combined with further development of workers' settlements, would continue in Oberlohberg, as was also observed a short time later in Lohberg and therefore wanted to come first with the choice of the location of the church, but where the expansion of the industrial settlement with further residential areas towards Oberlohberg never happened.

description

The church, built in 1895, is a towerless, single - nave neo-Gothic hall church . The building was designed by the architect Wilhelm Rincklake from Münster. It is made of brick with three yokes, which in turn are divided inside with belt arches and pilasters and with a polygonal choir closure. The transition from the nave to the apse is through a pointed triumphal arch . The nave is closed by ribless cross vaults and the apse is closed by cross rib vaults .

Furnishing

On the altar table ( Baumberger sandstone ) is one of Ferdinand Langenberg created carved from linden wood with three picture scenes: on the left, Jesus praying on the Mount of Olives , in the middle of the Crucifixion and right the resurrection of Christ . Jesus rises above the altar and shows his heart .

The tabernacle is set in the predella , the doors of which are made of brass, where the focus is on the image of the Annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary . At the head and foot of the tabernacle doors are medallions with the symbols of the evangelists .

In the niches of the front of the Altarmensa, which is divided into three fields, sit two characters from the Old Testament : the prophet Isaiah in the left niche and King David with the harp in the right niche.

The window glass pictures were designed in 1951 by Ignaz Donat in Datteln and completely renovated in 2005 by Derix in Kevelaer .

history

The thousand-year history of church life goes back to the early days of Christianity in the region. A church was probably founded in Hiesfeld in the 10th century, the catchment area of which also included the Dinslaken area.

After Abpfarrung of St. Vincent in Dinslaken in 1436 included the medieval parish near the village Hiesfeld the peasantry Barmingholten, middle, upper and lower Lohberg. In 1585 the community accepted the evangelical confession.

After the Reformation there was no Catholic church in Hiesfeld for a long time. The few Catholics received pastoral care from Dinslaken St. Vincentius. On October 4, 1896, the first Catholic church in Hiesfeld for around 300 years after the Reformation was built on the Oberlohberg. The former daughter church St. Vincentius had become the mother church for Hiesfeld. They were only consecrated in 1920 and the relics put in place .

As a result of construction activity after the Second World War, an independent parish rectorate was set up and separated in the inner-city area of Hiesfeld in 1958 . This was the birth of the Holy Spirit parish. Both parishes were looked after by the Passionists in pastoral care until 1994 and, after their withdrawal, were put into one hand as a pastoral care unit in 2000.

War, storms and mining damage damaged the church, which was repeatedly renovated with the support of parishioners, most recently in 2005 and 2011.
