education

school

Hestrup had an elementary school between 1953 and 1976. Brandlecht was previously the school location and since the school year 1976/77 Brandlecht has been the school location again for primary school students. In order to build the school in Hestrup, the old school on Kirchplatz in Brandlecht was sold to the Reformed parish in 1952 for 5,000 DM. This money went to the political community of Hestrup, which was able to start building the new school on the railway embankment. In 1953 the joint school association with Brandlecht was dissolved and on July 1st, lessons in Hestrup began with 59 pupils; the official handover took place on October 13, 1953. At the evangelical elementary school Brandlecht 68 students remained in two classes. The city of Nordhorn, which has been a school authority since 1974, pushed for the school to be closed because it was only one class. At the end of the 1976 school year, the Hestrup elementary school was closed; at last the school had 39 students.
