The Heukenberg is a former nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Dassel in the Northeim district and the Heinade community in the Eschershausen-Stadtoldendorf district in the Holzminden district .

The former nature reserve with the signs NSG BR 120 (Northeim district) and NSG HA 180 (Holzminden district) is 42.5  hectares in size. Of this, 28.2 hectares are in the Northeim district and 14.3 hectares in the Holzminden district. The former nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Holzberg bei Stadtoldendorf, Heukenberg". It has been under nature protection since October 2nd, 1998. On December 20, 2018, it opened up in the “ Holzberg, Denkiehäuser Wald, Heukenberg ” nature reserve . Responsible lower nature conservation authorities were the districts of Nordheim and Holzminden.

The former nature reserve is located in the Solling foreland on the Heukenberg between the villages of Heinade, Merxhausen and Mackensen , east of the Solling and west of the Amtsberge . It placed the western and southern exposed slopes of the Heukenberg under protection, which are characterized by extensive, species - rich semi -arid grassland and mesophilic grassland areas with strips of shrubbery and individual trees. Small areas of forest that were historically used as coppice have been preserved as well as transitions to mesophilic oak and mixed beech forests .

In the east of the area there is an abandoned limestone pit that is being recultivated . Maintenance measures are carried out to preserve the semi-arid grassland and the coppice. The coppice forest can traditionally be cultivated.

On the Heukenberg there is a launch site for hang-gliders and paragliders, which can still be used.
