The limestone plant species prefers dry grasslands , rubble and stone corridors or bare rocks. This species can be found in the mountains of eastern Central Europe as well as in southern Europe at altitudes between 1100 and 2700 meters above sea level . In the Allgäu Alps, it rises to the Rotgundspitze in Bavaria up to 2300 m above sea level.
