action

At a casting for a TV series, the brunette, fifteen-year-old Kimberly Joyce auditioned for a supporting role as a French exchange student. She makes an impression because of her good French pronunciation, but cannot prevail against the - mostly blonde - competitors.

Kimberly is at her exclusive private school in Beverly Hills . She looks disgruntled at her friend Brittany as she flirts with Kimberly's ex-boyfriend. Reporter Emily Klein and law teacher Roger Nicholl, who calls the reporter a “cold sister”, introduce themselves in the director's office.

Kimberly meets her new classmate, Randa, who comes from the Middle East. Randa's naivete is striking. While the two stroll around the campus, Kimberly lets herself be heard about the Western image of women, diets and her rich classmates and tries very hard to portray herself as a good person. Among other things, she mentions Josh Horowitz, whose father has defended the murderer of his own wife and obtained an acquittal.

Randa and Kimberly are in class with Mr. Anderson. Kimberly talks to Randa about her headscarf and spreads general prejudice against the Middle East. She also tells a joke that goes something like: “How does an Arab impregnate his wife? He ejaculates against the wall and lets the flies do the rest. ”Randa laughs, Kimberley points out that her laughter is inappropriate, the joke is offensive to her people. She mentions that her brother was killed in the Iraq war and that her father is already in his third marriage. Mr. Anderson puts both of them in detention for gossiping.

While they are still on campus, they briefly meet "Kenny, the arms dealer". Kimberley's friend Barry, whom she says she finds "stupid" but who plays football, joins the conversation. He wants to give the girls reasons why beer is better than women, but has forgotten them. Then they meet Brittany, who is learned that she skipped school to spend time with her new boyfriend Troy - Kimberly's ex-boyfriend. However, the reason for the separation is not mentioned. It comes up that Brittany likes to masturbate. What is striking is Britanney's ability to use foreign words incorrectly.

The girls submit to the tender for the play "Anne Frank", which is to be performed under the direction of Mr. Anderson. Kimberly says she gets the lead because she's a brunette. She has to kiss Troy in one piece. When Randa and Kimberly go to detention, Brittany warns them that Mr Anderson is weird with girls.

In detention, Mr. Anderson closes the blinds while talking to Randa.

Kimberly's family sits at the lunch table over food that has been delivered. The father expresses himself clearly anti-Semitic and xenophobic. Nobody listens to the other, everyone speaks past one another. Kimberly is disturbed by a phone call from her mother while she is eating. She misspelled her name, forgot her age and the name of Kimberly's dog. The parents continue to argue in the background. Kimberly tells of a violin audition that her father won't be there. The conversation ends when Kimberly is interrupted by a phone call from Barry trying to tell her one of the beer jokes.

Kimberly goes to Barry, from whom she asks sexual favors without returning the favor. Barry complains about it.

A month later, Brittany, who is now brunette, storms out of the auditorium and ventures her hatred of Mr. Anderson. Kimberly comforts her and invites her to meet Randa at Kimberly's house that evening.

In the evening the girls watch TV while they smoke their father's cigars and eat his sweets. There is a report on television about a boy who ran amok at another private school. The reporter is Emily Klein. The girls briefly discuss, Kimberly says she can understand the boy. Then Kimberly puts in a porno.

At Mr. Anderson's house. He gives his wife the skirt that girls wear at school. He asks his wife to put it on straight away and read a slip of paper with the title "Why I deserve to be punished". The two start making love.

Kimberly continues with the porn. Kimberly shares her experiences with anal sex. She had a friend - Warren - who tried anal sex with her. Then he left her on the grounds that he didn't want a woman who would allow something like that to be done to her. Kimberly says Warren didn't hurt as much as the others, but doesn't go into that. The porn shows a conversation between two lesbian women.

The girls vomit the candy. The separation of Kimberly and Troy comes up, Kimberly pretends to have left him because there was no sexual activity. Brittany wonders about this. Randa comes back from the bathroom and the girls devote themselves to plans for revenge on Mr. Anderson.

The girls are at the school where metal detectors were set up because of the killing spree. The girls talk briefly. The reporter reports about the school and that the girls have reported Mr. Anderson for sexual assault. The assumption that the reporter is a lesbian is confirmed.

At Mr. Anderson's, Mr. Anderson, his wife, and Mr. Nicholl discuss how to proceed. Let Mr. Nicholl take over the defense. He wants to plead that Mr. Anderson has a paralyzed hand - the one he didn't use to cuddle the girls. Mrs. Anderson expresses doubts about this type of defense.

At Kimberly's home, Kimberly's father's phone call to a sex hotline is interrupted by Kathy. Kimberly overheard the conversation. Kathy and Kiberly's father quarrel, and there are repeated references to Kathy having sex with the family dog. Kimberly's father now decides to discuss her sexual debauchery and the charges against Mr. Anderson with Kimberly. He is concerned about the reputation of his educational skills as well as that of his company. Kathy interrupts the conversation; Kimberly alludes to Kathy's relationship with the dog and quotes from the father's conversation with the sex hotline to point out to both of them their sexual misconduct.

Kimberly meets Emily, the reporter, in the school hallway. Kimberly pretends to be the savior of the oppressed. She uses the conversation from porn to secure the reporter's sympathy.

The judicial process begins. The girls are noticeably well dressed in the courtroom.

A look back shows that Kimberly was stripped of the role of Anne Frank after she spoke out anti-Semitic to Josh Horowitz at a school event. This statement seems provoked by Kimberly because she organized the school event. Mr. Anderson and Mr. Nicholl chat about how intelligent Kimberly is and how manipulative the girls at school are, mostly through their ostensible sexual behaviors. In the principal's office, Josh and Kimberly make up. Kimberly accuses her father of growing up anti-Semitic because of him. After that, Kimberly learns that the role has been revoked. She claims to have received Anne Frank's diary from her fallen brother. Mr. Anderson doesn't believe her. Kimberly colors Brittany's hair so that she can take on the role.

In the courtroom, Mr. Nicholl questions Kimberly. He accuses her of being in love with Mr. Anderson and therefore wanting revenge. As evidence, he cites the slip of paper that Mrs. Anderson had read earlier, entitled "Why I Deserved To Have Punished". It is an essay that was written during detention. Kimberly reads it out in an innocent voice. When Mr. Nicholl asks her to read him more erotically, Kimberly refers to her age and thus to her seemingly lack of sexual experience. She starts to cry.

Kimberly sexually acts on Josh Horowitz and asks him to ask his father to defend Mr. Anderson. Josh doesn't understand her request.

Randa is questioned in court. Mr. Anderson threatened Randa during detention that she would fail her in English because of her poor performance. For Randa's parents, however, good grades are extremely important. In court, she says that Mr. Anderson told a mean joke. She tells the joke that Kimberly mentioned at the beginning of the film. She also says she was groped. When asked by Mr. Nicholl with which hand this was done, she replied "with both". This renders Mr. Nicholl's defense strategy obsolete.

At Brittany's home, she reveals to Troy that she is afraid of what she will testify as she often fails under pressure. Troy praises Kimberly and tells how the breakup broke out between the two of them: He disowned Kimberly after learning that she had anal sex with Warren.

In the courtroom, Brittany is questioned by the prosecutor. She describes the events before she stormed out of the auditorium: Mr. Anderson asked her to live a "personal moment". She started masturbating on stage. He told her to continue, but she left the room angrily, followed by Kimberly.

Kimberly ends her relationship with Barry. He reacts by continuing to tell beer jokes.

Kimberly sexually acts on reporter Emily.

Meanwhile, Josh asks his father to defend Mr. Anderson. He only manages to convince him by making his father feel guilty for spending so little time with Josh.

The reporter is extremely positive about the trial and about Kimberly. Your relationship with the camerawoman breaks.

Mr. Horowitz enters the courtroom.

The following is a look back at the evening on which the plan of revenge arose. Now that Randa's and Brittany's motives are clear, Kimberly's motive is revealed: She hopes the media interest will make it easier for her to get started as an actress. Brittany is also impressed by this motif. It comes up again that Brittany has problems with pressure.

In court, Mr. Horowitz only addresses Brittany by name. She shares the plan of revenge. There is already a large crowd in front of the school, as is the press. Emily is angry with Kimberly, but she blackmails her to keep reporting positive. Her leverage is a video of the sexual activity between the two.

Randa's father brings grave allegations against her and the United States.

The consequences are known: the students are suspended. Brittany is left by Troy and is overcome with sadness. Instead of comforting her, Kimberly urges her to preserve the pain for her later acting career. Randa smuggles a pistol under her headscarf into the school where she is supposed to pick up her books. She writes the sentence “We are all sinners” in Arabic on the board and shoots herself. Kimberly's father blames his daughter for bad business. She blames herself for Randa. She wants her father to spend more time with her. He refuses and lets hear even more allegations. Mr. Anderson is being left by his wife.

The producers of the show Kimberly auditioned for pay attention to the negative press about Kimberly. Among other things, "Kenny the gun dealer" comments negatively about firearms; Emily is positive about Kimberly. You decide to contact Kimberly.

Kimberly moves to live with her mother. While she is packing, she opens Anne Frank's diary, in which there is actually a dedication from her brother. She is interrupted by Brittany. She learned through Josh that Kimberly had planned to divulge the plans for revenge in court. Kimberly is now known. As an additional motive, she cites jealousy about Troy. She tells how she planned everything. At Randa's death, she is content with an allusion to the death of her brother.

Kimberly is watching TV and crying. The series in which she has a supporting role is running, an interview with the gunman, a statement from Randa's father, Southpark and again the series.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on August 26, 2005 that the film should have been shot as either a drama or a comedy without trying to mix the two genres. He praised the " amazingly good " portrayal of Evan Rachel Wood.

Stephen Holden called the film in the New York Times on August 12, 2005 an obscene, misanthropic satire that went all out. She was so gleefully nasty that it was amazing that the film was made and released at all. Much about him is also " extremely funny ". Every satire that is worth its money should not be afraid to offend, and this satire hurls its filth with fearless audacity in every direction. The ice-cold demeanor of Evan Rachel Woods character is completely convincing and upsets you. To see the film is like a cleansing thunderstorm, afterwards the air is fragrant and you have a view of the horizon.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a " dramatic farce as a mixture of the dignified satire ' American Beauty ' and the teenage slap ' American Pie ' ". He plays “ with the sensationalism of the media as well as with social obsession ”, but is “ ultimately just a superficial mix of genres ”.
