Hochlarmark is a district of the district town of Recklinghausen . It is located in the extreme southwest of the city, on the border with Herten (-Süd) and Herne and has almost 10,000 inhabitants.

geography

Hochlarmark is located in the Emscherland in the outer southwest of the city of Recklinghausen. In the west the district borders on the city of Herten , in the south on the independent city of Herne . In the north is the Recklinghausen district of Stuckenbusch , in the east Recklinghausen- Grullbad .

Waters

In the south of Hochlarmark, the Emscher forms the border with Herne. The straightened Emscher flows from Hochlarmark to Grimberg in the historic Fleuthe stream, which was a tributary of the Emscher in the 19th century. The historic bed of the Emscher is used for the Rhine-Herne Canal running south .

In the east of the district, the Hellbach flows from north to south towards the Emscher. The western part of Hochlarmark is drained via the Resser Bach to the Holzbach and the Schellenbruchgraben.

history

Before shaft 1 of the Recklinghausen colliery (Clerget shaft, later Recklinghausen I) was put into operation in 1884 , Hochlarmark was a rural community. Sinking of the shaft began in 1869 . In 1882 a second shaft began to be sunk in Hochlarmark (Clerget II shaft, Recklinghausen II shaft from 1889). Two more shafts were sunk in 1899 and 1901. From 1889 a coking plant was also operated in Hochlarmark. The workforce of the colliery and the coking plant are the reason for the growing population over the years. Housing estates were created for the working class families, so-called colliery settlements . The triangle settlement should be mentioned here in particular . In 1974 the Recklinghausen colliery was closed.

The daytime facilities of the Recklinghausen I shaft and the headframe of Recklinghausen II still shape the image of the district today. The Hoheward dump on the border with the city of Herten, which was created by the filling of various collieries, still shows the mining past of Hochlarmark and is a popular destination for people in the region.

Economy and Infrastructure

With the closure of the Recklinghausen colliery, the largest employer in the district collapsed. Today Hochlarmark is mainly characterized by medium-sized and small companies.

Hochlarmark can be reached on the German transport network via the federal motorway 43 (exit 13, Recklinghausen-Hochlarmark). The Recklinghausen Süd train station is right on the border with the Grullbad district. This means that Hochlarmark can also be reached by train ( Niers-Haard-Express and the S 2 line ). Furthermore, regular buses of the Vestische trams go to Hochlarmark.
