The high road is a highway-like -developed road in Kamen during the B 233 .

It begins on the B 61 in Kamen and from there leads like a motorway to the Kamen-Zentrum junction of the A 1 .

course

Beginning

The Hochstraße begins in Kamen-Mitte at the intersection Lünener Straße / Westring / Hochstraße, where the B 61 branches off from the B 233, with which it previously runs, in the direction of Lünen.

Kamen inner city junction

In the further course the Hochstraße crosses the streets Koppelstraße and Bollwerk as well as the river Seseke . After about 500 meters you will reach the first junction. It is located in the south of the Kamen city ​​center and north of the Kamen town hall , the Kamen town hall and the Kamen train station . In the direction of Unna (coming from the north) the descent ends directly at the Koppelteich on Koppelstraße, a street parallel to the Hochstraße. There the district road K 40 begins in the direction of Kamen-Methler . The Sesekedamm exit in the direction of Werne (coming from the south) leads directly along the Seseke and ends at a roundabout with Bahnhofstrasse, which connects the two driveways and leads in the direction of Methler. Since the pedestrian-friendly renovation of Bahnhofstrasse, traffic has been slowed down significantly. Nevertheless, it is still an important link in Kamen.

Crossing the Dortmund-Hamm railway line

The elevated road then crosses the Dortmund-Hamm section of the Cologne-Minden Railway near the Kamen train station. The elevated road bridge can be seen from the Kamen train station.

There is a bus stop on both sides of the bridge that crosses Heerener Straße .

Junction Kamen-Süd

The Kamen-Süd junction is located in the southern Kamen-Mitte (also called Kamen-Süd). It serves as a junction to the L 663, which leads as Dortmunder Allee to Dortmund , Unna-Massen and Kamen-Südkamen or as Heerener Straße to Hamm , Bönen and Kamen-Heeren-Werve as well as to the Kamener Schulzentrum ( comprehensive school and secondary school ). In the direction of Unna, the exit leads as Unnaer Straße through a residential area in Kamen , in the direction of Werne it touches the industrial area of the same name as Henry-Everling-Straße . To the south of the junction, Hochstraße continues the name of one driveway (Unnaer Straße).

Kamen-Zentrum junction

The Hochstraße and, for the time being, the B 233 end at the Kamen-Zentrum junction of the A 1. The intersection with the driveway towards Cologne and the Zollpost industrial area is the first level crossing of the Hochstraße. On the section between the driveway to Cologne and the driveway to Bremen , the Kamen autobahn police have only been in operation for a few years ; they were previously located on Dortmunder Allee and at Kamener Kreuz . The motorway police can only be reached directly in the direction of Unna. Drivers coming from Unna can only reach them via the Kamen-Zentrum driveway in the direction of Cologne.

Further course

The Unnaer Straße initially runs four lanes as the L 678 to the Kamen Karree . From there it then leads in two lanes to Unna.

Speed ​​limit

Despite the four-lane expansion, the maximum permitted speed is only 70 km / h, and between the two exits of the Kamen-Zentrum junction it is only 50 km / h.

Transport policy importance

The elevated road is of great importance for the region. This is due on the one hand to the fact that it represents the main connection between Bergkamen, Kamen and Unna and serves as a motorway feeder, and on the other hand because there are hardly any alternative routes. It is the only street in Kamen-Mitte that crosses the Dortmund-Hamm railway line.

The noise level is particularly criticized at the Unnaer Straße exit . That is why a maximum speed of 30 km / h has been in effect there since the end of 2011. As a special measure, the city of Kamen has installed LED signs. In the long term, however, Unnaer Strasse is no longer intended to serve as a departure. Instead, it was initially planned to build a high-performance gyro. In the meantime, however, a traffic light crossing is planned, which has led to much criticism from the Kamen CDU and FDP .

Parking facilities

With the exception of a few parking bays at the Kamen-Zentrum exit, it is not possible to park on the Hochstraße itself. However, you can park under the elevated road in the inner-city area.

The Hochstraße was illuminated at night until February 2012. In the meantime, only the stop on Heerener Straße is illuminated. However, the lanterns have not yet been dismantled.

Renovation and renovation in 2017

A new intersection with traffic lights is to be built in the area of ​​Henry-Everling-Straße in 2017. The city of Kamen favored a roundabout, but Landesbetrieb Straßen.NRW feared that it would not have sufficient capacity, which is why a traffic light solution was preferred. As part of this, among other things, the surface of the elevated road is being renewed. The renovation and renovation will cost around 1.5 million euros.
