The Hohe Wart is a 433 meter high mountain in the Spessart in the Bavarian districts of Aschaffenburg and Miltenberg .

geography

The wooded mountain is located in the community-free state forest Hohe Wart . The 4.68 km² area borders on the areas of the communities of Bessenbach (district Oberbessenbach) and Mespelbrunn , both in the district of Aschaffenburg, as well as the area of the community Leidersbach (districts Leidersbach and Volkersbrunn) and the market Sulzbach am Main (district Soden), both in the Miltenberg district. The city of Aschaffenburg is the sole landowner .

A popular excursion destination is located on the mountain, the Hohe-Wart-Haus forest restaurant . The Pfaffenberg with its Bavarian Broadcasting System borders in the northwest. The Hohe Wart should not be confused with two other elevations in the Spessart with almost the same name: the Hohe Warte near Rohrbrunn and the Hohen Warte near Ruppertshütten . The Franconian Marienweg leads over the Hohe Wart .

history

As early as 1586 there was a direct route between “Hainbüchethal” and Aschaffenburg. This path led over the "Laiten" and the "Hohewart". Between the Laiten and the Hohewart there was "Die Schlege" - three barriers with which the path could be blocked, apparently in order to collect tolls there. The barriers were in the area of today's Hohe-Wart-Häuschen, which is believed to have been built by forester Sartor because of its inscription "Antonius Sartor, Förster zu Volkersbrunn 1733". The house is on the list of monuments at D-6-76-136-8.

administration

At the end of the old empire, the Hohe Wart belonged to the area of the combined Oberkellerei Aschaffenburg and Bachgau winery as well as to the Cent vorm Spessart and the area of the Vogteiamt Kleinwallstadt in the Vicedomamt Aschaffenburg in the Electorate of Mainz . As a result of the Paris Treaty of June 3, 1814, the Hohe Wart with the Principality of Aschaffenburg (at that time part of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt) came to the Crown of Bavaria on June 26, 1814. There she belonged to District Court III from 1817. Class Kleinwallstadt, Principality of Aschaffenburg, Lower Main District. After the dissolution of the Kleinwallstadt Regional Court in 1828, the Hohe Wart came to the Obernburg First Class Regional Court, after merging with the Klingenberg Regional Court in 1862, Obernburg district office, from 1939 Obernburg am Main district . In the course of regional reform in Bavaria, the Hohe Wart became part of the Miltenberg district on July 1, 1972.

Since then, there have been seven applications from neighboring municipalities and the city of Aschaffenburg to incorporate the Hohe Wart into their respective municipal areas and thus gain planning sovereignty over the area: Leidersbach municipality 1983, 2003 and 2013; City of Aschaffenburg 1983, 2003 and 2014; Municipality of Mespelbrunn 2007. In order to “preserve communal peace and prosperous coexistence”, the responsible government of Lower Franconia has not yet approved any of these requests.

Real estate

In 1668 the city of Aschaffenburg owned a half share in the Hohen Wart. The other half belonged to the Cent in front of the Spessart. By comparison of October 17, 1718, an agreement was reached on the division of the Hohe Wart into a city - Hohe Wart and one cent - Hohe Wart. The almost equivalent parts were assigned to their respective owners in pleno jure between the city and the cent after drawing lots and after the stone was laid from September 25th to 27th, 1719. This comparison with an exact description of the landmarks and boundary stones was confirmed on January 18, 1720 by Lothar Franz von Schönborn , Archbishop and Elector of Mainz. The Cent - Hohe Wart was publicly auctioned on July 30, 1857, and the contract was awarded to the brothers Ludwig and Friedrich Rexroth on October 26, 1857. After another change of ownership, Cent - Hohe Wart came to the city of Aschaffenburg from Gustav Georg Lange , publisher, book and art dealer in Darmstadt.

Oddities

The Hohe Wart is the place of the haunted tales of the gray man, the wild hunt, the headless horse, the sudden storm, the black dog, the sparrow picture and the invisible woodcutters.
