Landscape protection area since 1977 |
The Hohendeicher See or Oortkatensee is an artificially created swimming lake in the southeast of Hamburg in the Ochsenwerder district in the marshland . The lake is located in the area of the former foreland of the two old Elbe dikes Ochsenwerder Elbdeich and Warwischer Hinterdeich. The Hohendeicher See with its catchment area was designated as a landscape protection area in 1977.
Emergence
During the storm surge in 1962 , the Ochsenwerder Elbdeich and the Varwischer Hinterdeich were seriously endangered, but they did not flood. As a result, the “relevant storm surge water level” was estimated to be +6.70 meters above sea level, i.e. 1.10 meters higher. It was not possible to raise the old dikes because they were built on. The new Overwerder main dike was built on the Elbe side of the old foreland , which also shortened the dike line. The materials gravel and clay used to build this dike were taken from the area between the old and the new dike. In the northern area, the new inland and sport boat port Oortkaten was set up on the Elbe side.
The lake created by the extraction of material now has an area of 62 hectares and is used for (ice) bathing, diving, sailing , windsurfing and stand-up paddling . Campsites were then built on the remaining area of the former foreland. The respective lands and bathing bays belong to the farmers living there and are administered and maintained by them.
Flora and fauna
A variety of native fish, bird and plant species live in and around the Hohendeicher See:
- Birds:
- Mute swan
- Coot (also Blesshuhn written)
- Great crested grebe
- Mallard
- Plants:
- two candelabrum algae ( Chara vulgaris and Nitella opaca )
- four types of pondweed (frizzy pondweed, comb-shaped pondweed, streaked pondweed and small pondweed)
- Nuttall's waterweed
- Speared milfoil
- Rough horn leaf
- Spreading water crowfoot
- occasionally also the moss Amblystegium riparium and the water knotweed
In addition, the American crayfish has settled in the lake , whose larvae were introduced as neozoon through ballast water .
Fish fauna
The Hohendeicher See is one of the association waters of the Hamburger Angelsportverband e. V. The whole lake, with the exception of the designated closed areas, can be fished by the members of the fishing association. Guest cards are issued for this body of water. The following fish species are found in the water: carp , tench , roach , rudd , aland , bream , pike, pikeperch , asp , perch , ruffle , stickleback , burbot and eel . In the past, the quarry pond was known for the occurrence of large pike, perch, pikeperch and carp.
Sports
Various athletes are active in and on the Hohendeicher See. While the east bank is mainly used as a campsite, windsurfers are active on the west bank. In addition to a surf school, the Hamburg windsurfing club is also located on the lake. In the northern area of the lake is the Vierlande sailing club, which organizes several regattas in the Optimist boat class every year . In addition, boats of the Laser and Europe classes are predominantly represented for sailing training . In the southern area are the jetties of the Bergedorfer Schüler Segelverein and Haus Warwisch, which use Robinson dinghies and Gipsy sports dinghies . Ice bathing is also practiced in the lake in winter .
There is a bathing beach on the southern shore of the lake, which is used by swimmers and divers as access to the lake. In the southeastern area, the German Underwater Club Hamburg has its club hut and a jetty. Here, three buoys mark a diving bell, a training platform with a workbench and a telephone booth in the water of the bay. The three objects are each connected to one another with guide lines.
In August 2007, the first event "Der Abflug" took place at Hohendeicher See: For this purpose, a seven-meter-high ramp was built as a water slide.
At the beginning of June, the lake serves as the venue for the Vierlanden Triathlon, in which - depending on the route - you swim between 500 and 1900 m before you set off on the bike route towards Tatenberger Schleuse . Finally, there is a run on the lake shore.
