Watergraafsmeer, Philidor Leiden and Philidor Leeuwarden fought a three-way battle for the title. Although Watergraafsmeer was defeated by both competitors, they were able to prevail with half a board point lead on Leiden and one team point lead on Leeuwarden. Haagse Moerwijk and Het Oosten Haarlem had moved up from class 1 . While Moerwijk achieved relegation, Het Oosten had to relegate together with defending champion Charlois. For the team cadres see team cadre of the Hoofd class (chess) 1969/70 .
