Giessenlanden ( listen ? / I ) was a municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland . It merged with Molenwaard on January 1, 2019 to form the new municipality of Molenlanden . Audio file / audio sample

Surname

A small moor river called Giessen runs through the municipality. The name of the river is etymologically related to the German verb pour .

history

The municipality was created on January 1, 1986 through the merger of the former municipalities Arkel, Giessenburg , Hoogblokland, Hoornaar, Noordeloos and Schelluinen.

Giessenlanden merged with Molenwaard on January 1, 2019 to form the new municipality of Molenlanden .

Due to the merger on January 1, 2019, the elections for the council of the new municipality of Molenlanden took place on November 21, 2018.

Rinette Reynvaan was ( non-party ) acting mayor of the municipality from May 1, 2018 until the municipality was dissolved . The councilors included Elisabeth van Leeuwen ( CDA ), Jan de Groot ( VVD ), Harmen Akkerman ( SGP ) and the municipal secretary Boudewijn Marinussen .
