Surname

Before 1938, the place was called in Czech only Sedlo (passport). Only when the lower-lying community Spittelgrund was renamed Dolní Sedlo (about " lower pass") after the Second World War , Sedlo became Horní Sedlo (about "upper pass").

history

The place was first mentioned in 1628 when it belonged to the Grafenstein ( Grabštejn ) rule . On the trade route leading from Deutsch Gabel ( Jablonné v Podještědí ) to Grottau, forest workers probably built the first houses at the top of the pass in order to have shorter distances to their workplaces. In 1727 a street inn was added to the six existing houses. In 1788 there were nine houses, and in 1823 23 houses. Before it was incorporated into Hrádek nad Nisou, the pass was part of the municipality of Spittelgrund ( Dolní Sedlo ) from 1848 onwards . In 1869 the village had 166 inhabitants, in 1900 there were only 119.

During the war years, numerous troops moved over the strategically important pass road, for example Prince Poniatowski and his Polish department in June 1813 . In 1866 the Prussians followed in the German War. After the expulsion of the German residents, the number of residents fell drastically. In 1947 the village was renamed Horní Sedlo . In 1950 Horní Sedlo had only 46 inhabitants. By 1991 the number sank to 25. In 2001 the village consisted of 14 houses in which 28 people lived.

Local division

Horní Sedlo is part of the Dolní Sedlo cadastral district.

Attractions

Around 1739 the Andersch family from Spittelgrund had a small chapel built with a square floor plan, which was given a turret in 1890. Opposite the chapel, the restaurant "Zur Schöne Aussicht" ("U Krásné vyhlídky") was built around 1919.

Next to the chapel is a linden tree planted in 1832, behind it a concrete bunker built in 1937/38 for the former Czechoslovak border fortifications .

In the vicinity of the village are the climbing rocks Skaly u Horní Sedlo ( Oberwegsteine ), the 565 m high rock summit Popova skála ( Pfaffenstein ) above the Krásný důl ( Kaisergrund ) and the 499 m high Vraní skály ( Rabensteine ) as well as the via ferrata “Stezka horolezců” ".
