Horst Fröhlich (born March 28, 1934 in Jagsten ; † February 6, 2017 in Plauen ) was a German philologist and ethnographer .

Life

Horst Fröhlich was born in East Prussia . After fleeing from there, he came to Saxony in 1947, where he completed his schooling in Freital in 1954 with the Abitur . He then went to study German at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , where he received his diploma in 1958 with a thesis on the structure of society and the individual fate in Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach's narrative . Because of the marriage with a teacher from Plauen , he moved from Freital to Plauen in the Saxon Vogtland . In 1960 he got a permanent position as a research assistant at the local Vogtland district museum. For the next few decades he worked in Plauen. During this time he took up a distance learning course in ethnography at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1966 , which he completed in 1970 as a graduate ethnographer. His thesis was supervised by Paul Nedo .

From 1991 to 1993 he took over the management of what is now the Vogtland Museum in Plauen . In 1996 he took early retirement at the age of 62.

While he was working at the museum, he edited the edition of the series of publications published by the museum and wrote some of these books himself or was a co-author. He was also significantly involved in the development of Volume 44 of the series Values ​​of the Homeland with the title Plauen and the Middle Vogtland , which appeared in Berlin in 1986. As a co-author, he also worked on volume 59 The Eastern Vogtland , which was published in 1996.

Horst Fröhlich was a member of the district museum advisory board, the district committee for local history and the district committee for cultural history and folklore in the GDR cultural association . As a member of the editorial team, he worked on the Vogtland homeland sheets and the Saxon homeland calendar . One of his last works is the work Plauen, published in 2012, in historical cityscapes from four centuries , which he created together with Katrin Färber.
