Howard Collins (musician)

Howard C. Collins (born September 3, 1930 in Queens - † July 10, 2015 in Bangor , Northampton County , Pennsylvania ) was an American jazz and studio musician ( guitar , banjo ).

Live and act

Collins served in the US Army during the Korean War ; he received his bachelor's degree from Hofstra University and studied at the Manhattan School of Music . From the late 1950s he worked as a theater and session musician a. a. with Lucy Reed , with whom the first recordings were made, also with Tito Puente , Warren Covington and The Commanders, Chubby Jackson , John Carisi , George Russell ( Jazz in the Space Age ) and The Everly Brothers . In the following decade he was on recordings a. a. by Bob Dylan ( The Freewheelin 'Bob Dylan ), Peter, Paul & Mary , Coleman Hawkins ( Desafinado , 1962), Johnny Hartman , Ruby Braff , Buddy Rich , Milt Jackson , Modern Jazz Quartet , Pee Wee Russell , Richie Havens , Bobby Timmons and Attila Zoller involved.

In the 70s, 80s and 90s he also played in the New York jazz scene with Sonny Stitt , Urbie Green , Nancy Harrow , John Lewis and his American Jazz Orchestra. During this time he performed in New York clubs. a. with Don Friedman , Dick Hyman and Milt Hinton . In the field of jazz, he was involved in 55 recording sessions between 1955 and 2004. Collins also worked as a music teacher; one of his students was u. a. Adam Rogers .
