Hrachuhí Bassénz

Hrachuhí Bassénz (* 1979 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Armenian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Origin and education

Hrachuhí Bassénz comes from a musical and artistic family. Her mother was a dancer and used to sing . She was also her first singing teacher. In her youth, Bassénz was a member of a young music group that consisted of three jazz singers and one opera singer. Here Bassénz had his first appearances with jazz songs.

She first completed a violin course there, which she successfully completed in 1994. She received her vocal training from 1996 to 2002 at the State Conservatory in Yerevan with Gayane Geghamyan. In 1997 she won the 5th Singing Competition of the Republic of Armenia. In 2000 she won the 1st prize for Armenian hymn ( Sharakan ) at the “Hildegard Pabelick-Jentsch Prize”, the first Armenian-German song festival. In 2005 she took part in the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Vienna .

Fixed engagements

At the Belvedere singing competition she received a permanent engagement at the music theater in the Revier from the then Gelsenkirchen director Peter Theiler . In 2006 Bassénz moved to Germany . From 2006 to 2008 she was a permanent member of the Musiktheater im Revier. There she sang u. a. Leonora in Verdi's opera Il trovatore (2006 and 2007, her debut role), Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni (2007), Micaëla in Carmen (2007), Amelia in Simone Boccanegra (2007), Mimì in La Bohème (season 2007 / 08), Desdemona in Otello (2008) and Selika in L'Africaine (2008).

Since the 2008/09 season she has been a permanent member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Nürnberg , again under the direction of Peter Theiler . There she took on numerous leading roles as a house singer and became one of the “formative soloists” of the Nuremberg State Theater. Important Nuremberg games were u. a. Mimì, Elvira ( I puritani ), Queen of the Night ( Die Zauberflöte ), Micaëla, Donna Elvira, Countess Almaviva ( Le nozze di Figaro ), Liù ( Turandot ), Valentine ( Les Huguenots , 2013/14 season, with live broadcast over BR-Klassik) and Violetta Valéry ( La Traviata ). In the 2016/17 season she took on the title role in the opera Norma at the State Theater in Nuremberg . With this role she could be heard there again in September / October 2017.

In the field of operetta Bassénz sang Sylva Varescu in the Kálmán operetta Die Csárdásfürstin (2009) and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus (2013) at the State Theater Nuremberg . In 2010 she appeared as a soloist at the Nuremberg Opera Ball. In July 2011 she was a soloist at the “Klassik Open Air” in Nuremberg's Luitpoldhain with the Nuremberg State Philharmonic under the direction of the Augsburg GMD Dirk Kaftan .

Guest performances

Bassénz has made guest appearances at the Darmstadt State Theater (2007, as Trovatore- Leonora), at the Kassel State Theater (2011, as Desdemona), at the Augsburg Theater (2011/12 season, as Micaëla), at the Baltic Opera / Opera Bałtycka in Danzig (2011, as Violetta), at the Opéra National de Bordeaux (2013, as Queen of the Night), at the Landestheater Niederbayern (2014/15 season, as Violetta), at the Musiktheater im Revier (2016, as Norma), at the Israeli Opera in Tel-Aviv (November / December 2016, as Norma), in Switzerland , as well as Austria , Russia , Turkey , Cyprus , Lebanon and the USA .

In the summer of 2013 she sang the role of Leonora in the Verdi opera Il trovatore at the Schenkenberg Opera in Schinznach-Dorf . In the 2013/14 season she gave concerts with Verdi's “ Requiem ” under the direction of Marcus Bosch with the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno and the Stuttgart Philharmonic in the Festspielhaus Congress Centrum Heidenheim and took part in the 19th International Festival “Musical Olympus” in St. Petersburg participated with the orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater .

In the 2015/16 season she was a guest at Theater Hof as Countess in Le nozze di Figaro . In February 2017 she made her debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London with the title role of the opera Adriana Lecouvreur .

In August 2017 Bassénz made her debut with the role of Mimì at the Saxon State Opera in Dresden ; with the same role followed her in-house debut at the Vienna State Opera in September 2017 . In January / February 2018 Bassénz sings the role of Norma at the Norske Opera in Oslo .

Audio documents

Bassénz can be heard on various CDs and DVDs. In 2002 her first CD ( The Diving Liturgy of the Armenian Church ) was released with liturgical music by the Armenian composer Makar Jekmaljan . On CD she also sang the leading role in Johann Simon Mayr's oratorio Il sacrificio di Iefte (2009) and Calliope in La Toison d'or ( The Golden Fleece ) by Johann Christoph Vogel (2012). She also recorded a Christmas CD with winter and Christmas music with the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen under the direction of Heiko Mathias Förster (2007) and contemporary music by Armenian composers.

Awards

In 2011 Bassénz was awarded the Bavarian Art Prize. The jury particularly praised her "high stage presence and her extraordinarily broad vocal and acting repertoire". In 2013 she reached the 2nd place in the singing competition "Voci Verdiane" in Busseto .

Private

Bassénz is married and has one son. Her husband sings as a bass in the Nuremberg Opera Choir. Bassénz is involved in the Armenian community in Nuremberg for the interests of their home country Armenia.
