Grachia Petikyan (born January 23, 1960 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR ) is a former Soviet, since 1993 Armenian sports shooter . In 1992 he was Olympic champion in the three-position fight with the small-bore rifle .

Career

Petikjan's international career began at the 1985 European Championships when he won the bronze medal in the three-position battle in Osijek. At the same European Championships, he took fourth place in the standing position and sixth place in the kneeling position. The Soviet team won the three-position fight and the prone position. In 1986 Petikjan won both the World Cup in Mexico City and Bucharest a competition, at the World Championships in Suhl he finished fifth in the prone position. In 1988 Petikjan won the European Championships in Stavanger with the air rifle and won the bronze medal with the team. At the 1988 OlympicsIn Seoul he finished 24th with the air rifle, in the small caliber three-position fight he reached the final of the best eight shooters and finished sixth, almost three rings behind the bronze medal won by his Soviet teammate Kirill Ivanov .

At the European Championships in 1989, Petikjan won the competition with the small-bore rifle in the standing position and took eighth place in the three-position battle. In the team competition, Petikjan won with the Soviet team in both disciplines. In 1990 the World Championships took place in Moscow. Petikjan won bronze in the kneeling position and in the three-position fight. He finished fourth in standing. With the team he won the three-position fight, as well as in the lying and standing position. With the free rifle at 300 meters, Petikjan took seventh place in the three-position fight in Moscow and fifth place kneeling. With the team he won the three-position battle. The Soviet team won silver on their knees behind the Swedes, standing behind the French.

In 1992 the Soviet team no longer started internationally, the United Team competed for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . Gratschia Petikjan started in Barcelona in both disciplines with the small bore rifle. In prone shooting he reached the final and took eighth place. Two days later he moved into the final in the three-position fight as fourth in the qualification, he won 0.8 rings ahead of the US shooter Robert Foth .

From 1993, Grachia Petikjan competed for Armenia. At the European Championships in 1993 in Brno he won the silver medal in the small-bore three-position fight and took eighth place in the prone position. In 1994 he reached sixth place in the three-position fight at the World Championships in Milan. In 1996 he missed the final at the Atlanta Olympics as 13th in qualifying . Four years later, he finished 29th at the Olympic Games in Sydney . After the European Championships in 2002, Petikjan's international career ended.

Petikjan started for Dynamo Yerevan , he is a trained chemist.
