Hubertus Matheus Maria van Megen (born October 4, 1961 in Eygelshoven ) is a Dutch clergyman and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Hubertus van Megen was ordained a priest for the diocese of Roermond on June 13, 1987 . He entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and was secretary of the Nunciature in Somalia, Brazil, among others; Israel and Slovakia deployed. As Nuntiaturrat he was in the representation of the Holy See to the United Nations work in Geneva and in Malawi, where he since 2010 chargé d'affaires was.

On March 8, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of Novaliciana and apostolic nuncio in Sudan . He received his episcopal ordination on May 17th of the same year by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Roermond, Frans Wiertz , and the Permanent Representative of the Holy See to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Archbishop Silvano Tomasi CS . On June 7, 2014, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Eritrea .

Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Kenya on February 16, 2019 . On March 19, 2019, he also became apostolic nuncio in South Sudan . On May 25, 2019, Pope Francis also appointed him permanent observer to the United Nations Environment Program and the United Nations Program for Human Settlements (HABITAT).

In September 2019 he sharply criticized Western societies in Nairobi . People in the West "didn't even care about their own children".
