Hugo Kern and Liebers , known under the acronym Kern-Liebers , based in Schramberg, is an international group of companies specializing in metal processing . The group employs 8,050 people worldwide and achieved sales of EUR 745 million in 2017/2018.

history

Hugo Kern began producing tension springs for the watch industry in the Black Forest in 1888 . In 1920 the company was taken over by his son, Hugo Ernst Kern, and traded as Hugo Kern KG. In 1936 Kurt Steim , the grandson of Hugo Kern, became his successor as managing director of the company. In 1946 the production of blanks, which consisted of stamped parts for textile machine construction and the textile industry , started. From the mid-1960s, return springs were produced for automatic seat belts for automobiles . In 1971 Hugo Kern KG merged with Platinenfabrik Liebers & Co., Ingolstadt, to form Hugo Kern and Liebers GmbH & Co, Kern-Liebers . 1972 the company moves to Schramberg-Sulgen . Wire springs are manufactured from 1973. In 1975, the first foreign manufacturing facility went into operation in Toledo , Ohio . In 2002 a majority stake in Kurt Meder GmbH Villingen-Schwenningen is taken over. In 2004 a majority stake in Bohnert GmbH Hardt is carried out, resulting in a majority stake in Thüringer Präzisionsfederfabrik GmbH Ruhla . In the same year, Gebrüder Schmidt GmbH Wuppertal and Saxonia International BV with Saxonia Umformtechnik GmbH in Göppingen , Paul Leistner GmbH in Schwabach and other plants in the Czech Republic , Malaysia , China , Hong Kong and the USA are taken over. In 2005 the Schweizer GmbH & Co. KG Federtechnik in Reutlingen is bought.

The company maintains research partnerships with German universities. Kern-Liebers is a member of the fineblanking working group (AKF) at the WZL machine tool laboratory at RWTH Aachen University , an association of experts in the field of fineblanking technology and companies from the fields of tool technology, lubricant technology, materials technology and systems engineering.
